Florida Insider: Jupiter Notebook

JUPITER, FL— After four long days of watching some of the best high school players in not only the 2017 class, but also some high end underclassmen, we’re taking a look back at the 2016 World Wood Bat Championship.

Below are reports/notes on some of the players seen throughout the event:

Astros Scout Team/FTB Tucci

MJ Melendez, C, Westminster Christian HS, FL (2017)
Florida International recruit. MJ showed why he is not only one of the top players in FLorida, but one of the top players in the country. He has advanced defensive tools, including a plus arm. His hands work and are consistently in better and better positions. He still needs to improve on the blocking skills, but shows enough athleticism to do so. He also showed his continued improvement offensively. Staying short and direct to the ball more consistently as well as showing power again with an opposite field home run. As he uses his athleticism and continues to improve, so should his draft stock.

Nelson Galindez, LHP, Haines City HS, FL (2017)
Hillsborough Community College recruit. Fastball mostly sat 85-87 mph, change up was 74-75 mph. Didn’t have his best stuff on the day, managed to strike out two ...
