The PBR Future Games took Place from August 1-4 at Grand Park Indiana, just north of Indianapolis. This premier event of the summer brought over 500 of the top uncommitted 2020 and 2021 grads across the PBR network to perform in front of 253 college and professional scouts from across the country. Today we begin to breakdown Team Mid-Atlantic with full player analysis.

 

Team Mid-Atlantic Player Analysis Pt. 4

Jake Gelof SS / RHP / IMG Academy , DE / 2020

Athletic frame with room to add strength to at 6-foot-1, 172-pounds. Ran a 6.95 60-yard dash. Hits from a slight open set up with weight slightly forward and hands in a strong position at shoulder level. Medium level kick with short weight shift back to hitting position. Short swing path to the bal with some extension. Shows quickness and strength in swing. Power is present to pull side, hit multiple ball out during BP during the week. Exit Velocity of 97 mph. Sound actions in the infield. Clean footwork, not much wasted movement. Clean exchange with shorter arm action throwing from a high three-quarter slot. Arm has life in it, was up to 92 mph across the diamond. On the mound, has a controlled, short, build up style delivery. Gets high leg kick into a hip load and a near drop n drive style lower half. Very good backside involvement in delivery through release and finish. Free arm action with some whip to it. Creates fast arm speed. Fastball has slight run to the pitch up to 89 mph. Breaking ball has 11/5 shape to the pitch with later action. Chance to be a swing and miss pitch at 79 mph. Changeup has later fade and dive to the pitch at 81 mph.

Garrett Newsome RHP / OF / Gonzaga College, VA / 2020

Projectable athletic frame at 6-foot-2, 200-pounds. Ran a 7.03 60-yard dash. Hits froma taller, slightly open set up with hands at head and flat bat. Short swing path to the ball with some extension through contact. Works middle of the field well. Has some strength in swing and potential at the plate. Exit velocity of 92 mph. On the mound has a tall, controlled delivery with easy tempo. Medium leg kick with down to out action. Creates slight cross-body action in delivery to landing. Average backside involvement through release. Gets hips through well. Slight pause after separation with a sound arm action. Pitches with light effort. Fastball has run and sink to the pitch up to 87 mph on the day. Breaking ball has bigger 11/5 action on the pitch with gradual break. Shows proper shape and potential on the pitch. Threw change up in warms ups, arm side fade to the pitch with near fastball arm. Athletic frame and still plenty of room for growth in this athletic prospect.

Ethan McCormick SS / RHP / Archbishop Spalding , MD / 2020

Projectable frame with some length at 6-foot-1, 160-pounds. Ran a 7.03 60-yard dash. Hits from an open set up at the plate with hands at shoulder height. Leg lift load with short rock back to hitting position, landing slightly closed off. Short swing path at the plate keeping hands inside the ball. Quick hands with some bat speed and smoothness to swing. Gap to gap type approach. Defensively shows potential to stay at short and be good athletic short stop. Clean and quick hands in the field with fast exchange and release. Short arm action with arm velocity up to 84 mph. Can get rid of the ball very quickly, made an almost improbable double play turn from second to save day two victory over Florida. Also pitched, Compact delivery with short arm action. Fastball was up to 84 in game. Athletic delivery, can fill the strike zone. Future looks to be more as a position player down the road. Should stay in the middle as a defender on either side of the bag, still has quite a bit of ceiling left in his game.

Bryce Suters SS / OF / Broadway, VA / 2021

Projectable frame with some strength at 6-foot-1, 190-pounds. Ran a 7.27 60-yard dash. Hits from a taller, open setup at the plate with high hands. Bigger, deliberate, timing leg kick load to hitting position. Short swing path with some extension and uphill finish. Shows strength in swing and there is power potential to the pull side. Shows the potential to be a nice offensive prospect. Exit Velocity of 88 mph. From the middle showed nice athleticsm and clean hands. Active feet in the field works hard to get to right position. Not much wasted movement in field, short arm action across the diamond. Velocity was 77 mph. Has a higher ceiling and best years are ahead of him.

Austin Younce C / OF / Greenbrier Christian, VA / 2021

Athletic and projectable frame at 6-foot, 175-pounds. An athletic, versatile 2021 catching prospect. Ran a 7.19 60-yard dash. Hits from a balanced, strong set up at the plate. Gets into his lower half well. Short load with quick foot pick up. Simple, repeats well, nice balance and shows some fluidity in swing. Short swing path at the plate with some extension through contact. Gets up hill finish. Shows ability to pull hands inside ball when needed.  Shows some strength to the pull side and potential pop to that side down the road. Exit velocity of 90 mph. Receives ball well behind the dish. Presented nice target to pitcher. Clean and quick exchange with sound footwork on throws to second. Throws have carry on them to second up to 78 mph with a pop as low at 2.08. Solid overall prospect that will be a 2021 to follow.
