Game of the Day: Basic at Silverado

Brett Harrison
Nevada Scouting Director

Silverado: 4 - Basic: 3

The Basic Wolves traveled to Silverado to take on the Skyhawks with both teams top arms squaring off in #4 ranked 2021 and UNLV commit, Hunter Katschke, and #8 ranked 2021 and Arizona commit, Chris Cortez. The Wolves jumped out to an early lead with the help of Katschke's RBI double to centerfield scoring Uncommitted 2021 IF Dominik Tavares who got things started with a double of his own. But, was quickly answered by Uncommitted 2021 OF Zach Johnson's RBI double down the left field line, scoring CSN recruit 2020 IF Caleb Hubbard who singled his way on base.

The game remained a pitchers dual between Katschke (7.0 IP) and Cortez (5.0 IP) with Basic tacking one on in the third to take lead on a Tavares RBI, then saw no runs cross until the seventh when Katschke scored on a sac fly off of 2021 RHP and Oregon commit, Tanner McDougal. McDougal was able to work out of the jam allowing only one run and was helped out in the bottom half of the seventh as the Skyhawks scratched two across with the help of Ryan Skelly and Caleb Hubbard singling in a run each to force the game into extras.

Basic was unable to cash in the top of the eighth after a leadoff double by Uncommitted 2020 OF Zack Hose, followed by two Wolves making their way on after being hit by a McDougal pitch. Silverado started off the bottom of the eighth with a single by Johnson, advancing to second on a sacrifice bunt. McDougal helped out his own cause scoring Johnson from second on a shallow fly ball to centerfield walking off Basic, earning the win and PBR Player of the Game honors.
