Georgia 2023 Rankings: Deep Dive

Over the holiday season, the PBR Georgia staff updated the 2023 rankings and expanded them to a top-130. We started our analysis of this most recent update by taking a look at the top-10 prospects in Georgia. This was followed by taking a look at the prospects in Georgia’s 2023 class that also featured in the Overall rankings, the top-47 prospects in the state.
We continue our look at this very strong class by shining a light on the prospect’s who find themselves ranked within Georgia’s top-100, but are on the outside of the Overall rankings. Given how much talent there is in this particular class and the development many of them have left to do, it will come as no surprise to see many of these prospects rise into the Overall rankings in the coming months and years.
We start at No. 48-ranked UTL Reid Harvey (Thomas County Central). Harvey recently attended Fall Underclass Trials where he was one of the standout prospects. Listed at 6-foot-2, 188-pounds, Harvey has a strong build with much more on the way. He has one of the strongest arms positionally in this class, clocked at 87 across the infield and 90 from the outfield. The arm strength also translates to the mound where we have seen Harvey up to 88. At the plate, he has an easy effort swing, looking to elevate and pull the ball with force.
Sitting just behind Harvey at No. 49 is an arm that we got our first look at in the fall at the PBR Cup, RHP Paul Farley (Mt. Paran). Farley has a quick, clean arm action, coming out of a 3/4 slot with good tilt. A lean, wiry 6-foot-1, 160-pounds, Farley’s fastball sits 84-87, touching 88. In the appearance we witnessed, he showed good feel for the pitch, locating low and glove-side effectively. The arm strength alone will make you pay attention, but what really stood out was his use of his slider. He tunnels the pitch well with his fastball, as it falls out of the zone with downer action.
We move a couple spots deeper into the rankings to No. 52, SS Jackson Westmoreland (St. Francis). Westmoreland is without a doubt one of the most fun players to watch in this class. He is a high energy, highly competitive, gritty type player. There is no backing down from Westmoreland. At 5-foot-9, 160-pounds, Westmoreland may not stand out on paper, but he makes his presence known with his game. A right-handed hitter, he has great feel for the barrel and hand-eye coordination, allowing for him to use the entire field with a line drive approach.
