SoCal Notebook: 4/23/21

Southern California - The season carries on with the games becoming more and more meaningful across various parts of SoCal. As teams stare down league opponents in the coming weeks the last few weeks allowed teams an opportunity to stack themselves against the best competition available in tournament and one-off game settings. 

For me the last week started with a double dip in San Diego with a couple games in Orange County the next couple days before heading back to America’s Finest City to see a Power 25 matchup between #6 Rancho Bernardo and #20 La Costa Canyon. 

With six games in the last week there were plenty of players to see and evaluate. Below are notes on standout players from the last week along with video.

Blake Butcher 3B / RHP / Corona Del Mar , CA / 2021 Rankings  StateRank: 67 / POS: 2 Seems like we’ve been talking about Blake Butcher for years and that’s because we have and in his final prep season he’s making sure we continue talking about him. In a tie game Butcher launched a ball to RCF that carried then carried enough to get over the fence for a three-run HR, his third in as many games. There’s a more pronounced physicality to Butcher's frame. He’s always been strong, but now he appears stronger and leaner making him play quicker like on the charging play he made from behind the bag at third to get a speedy runner at first.
