Hatcher's Hotlist Vol. 4

Cayden Hatcher
PBR Florida Assistant Scouting Director

Hatcher’s Hotlist is a weekly segment that covers a handful of standouts from around the state of Florida. I will travel around the state covering high school and junior college baseball games and compiling a “hotlist”.

Take a look at my four standouts from the past seven days featuring three 2024 arms getting the Fastball in the low 90s and a 2022 arm that has turned in multiple quality outings up to 92 mph.

2024 Kaden Smith, RHP, Forest

Texas Christian University Commit. Athletic, 6-foot-1, 180 lbs. Last night I was able to track down the recently committed ‘24 and get some eyes on him and I was very impressed. Smith came in relief and looked very advanced for his class getting the Fastball up to 92 mph paired with two above-average breaking pitches. Smith comes from an over-the-top arm slot that created some really good spin rates. The 2024 arm shows that he understands spin as he kept the Fastball at the top of the strike zone which is where it caused fits for the opposing team with nothing getting touched or squared up at the top of the zone. To pair with the 2600 Fastball, Smith showed two breaking pitches. The curveball was around 2600 rpm at 74-77 mph with downer action and 12/6 shape. The Slider was obviously thrown harder at 78-81 mph in the 2800s which is very impressive for his age and had a chance to be a plus pitch. Smith is a helium guy and a very high follow in the 2024 class.
