High School Crosscheck: April 4-9

Nathan Rode and PBR Staff

For the first time since 2019, the scouting community descended on Cary, NC, with the return of the National High School Invitational. As usual, there were several top draft prospects in the event and we were treated to an excellent pitching matchup the first night--RHPs Dylan Lesko (Buford HS, GA) vs. Caden Dana (Don Bosco Prep, NJ).

Lesko did not disappoint, dominating with electric stuff and advanced polish. He sat 94-97 with his fastball and mixed in his trademark changeup, a plus-plus offering that gave hitters fits. The Vanderbilt recruit has long been known for his fastball-changeup combo and the question was whether the curveball would progress. Well, even though he only threw three in the outing, it showed above average potential with high spin, sharpness and depth at 76. He struck out seven over four innings and allowed a run on a couple of hits.
