High School Crosscheck: Feb. 22-28

Nathan Rode and PBR Staff

High school baseball returned a couple weeks ago with the Florida Preseason Classic--check out The Rode Show for coverage--and now that several states in the South have started, the High School Crosscheck series is back for 2021.

Texas always starts the season with three weekends of tournaments and this past weekend included a loaded one at Globe Life Field, home of the Texas Rangers. Kevin Bazzell (Rockwall-Heath HS, TX) had a strong weekend. The Dallas Baptist recruit  has a sturdy frame that projects well behind the dish, where he shows lots of natural athleticism. He’s a quality receiver, blocks well in both directions and shows a quick release with an above average and accurate arm. He loves to throw behind runners and hunts for outs at all times, picking two guys off in one inning at one point. At the plate, he’s a quality all-around hitter with plenty of power, bat control and plate discipline. He showed his well-rounded approach with a home run left field, double left center, single to right center and single to right over the course of the weekend.
