High School Crosscheck: March 22-27

Nathan Rode and PBR Staff

Last week, I made a swing through Georgia to three of the state’s top five prospects, plus others from Alabama, Florida and Tennessee at the PBR High School Select.

My run started with RHP Bubba Chandler (North Oconee HS, GA), who is committed to Clemson for baseball and football. He has some helium so far this spring and attracted a large crowd of scouts Monday that was made up of mostly crosscheckers and higher. It was a solid outing, not spectacular, but enough to keep him on the radar for consideration in the top two rounds. Facing a competitive program in Flowery Branch, Chandler was a little amped up in the first and it affected his stuff, as he left a lot of pitches up and wasn’t throwing consistent strikes. He allowed two runs in the first on two walks and a hit while striking out two. He reeled it in a little in the second, striking out two more, but allowed a run on a walk, hit and wild pitch. In the third, he hit cruise control and dominated until exiting after the sixth inning, finishing with 11 strikeouts.
