Hudi Masterful as Calvary Christian Rolls to 9-1 Victory

Last night, the Calvary Christian Warriors, who are currently ranked No. 1 in the PBR Florida Power25, took on the Tampa Catholic Crusaders in a matchup that featured lights-out pitching from 2019 LHP Nolan Hudi (Calvary Christian HS, FL) and strong nights at the plate from 2018 OF Eric Kennedy (Calvary Christian HS, FL), 2018 C Matheu Nelson (Calvary Christian HS, FL), and 2019 SS Christian Cairo (Calvary Christian HS, FL) on their way to a 9-1 victory. With the victory, the Warriors not only moved to 7-0 on the year, but have now won 37 games in a row dating back to last season’s 30-0 record.

2019 LHP Nolan Hudi was untouchable in his outing as he allowed no hits, no walks, and struck out nine in his five innings on the hill. The Texas Christian recruit pitched with confidence and attacked the zone as he mostly sat 84-87 mph, touching 88 with his fastball while mixing in a 73-74 mph curveball with depth along with a changeup he threw anywhere in the count that sat 75-77 mph with fade. Hudi threw a high percentage of first pitch strikes and seemed to get stronger as the game went on, working both sides of the plate and keeping the ball down in the zone. The Tampa Catholic lineup simply had no answer for him. Hudi also chipped in at the plate by going 1-for-3 including an RBI double.

Offensively, the Warriors began the game with a bang as Eric Kennedy laced a ball into the left-center field gap as raced around the bases for an inside the park home run to put them ahead 1-0. The Texas recruit went 3-for-4 on the night with two runs scored and two RBIs.

Christian Cairo was a catalyst at the plate all night for the Warriors as the Louisiana State recruit went 2-for-3 with a run scored and two RBIs. After knocking in a run with a line drive single to extend their lead to 3-0 in the bottom of the second, Cairo would deliver in his next at-bat with an RBI triple in the video below to extend their lead to 7-0 in the bottom of the third.

Matheu Nelson followed up Cairo’s RBI triple with an RBI double after he roped a ball to deep centerfield to extend their lead to 8-0 in the bottom of the third. The Florida State recruit has a strong frame and shows gap-to-gap power.

After pushing their lead to 9-0 on a passed ball, Tampa Catholic finally put a run on the board on an RBI single by 2018 IF Johnathan Rodrigues (Tampa Catholic, FL) to right, but that would be it for the night as Calvary Christian defeated Tampa Catholic 9-1.
