Cody Hultink SS / 2B / Pennfield, MI / 2021

BATTLE CREEK - Cody Hultink does not plan on settling when it comes to a college choice.

“I want a big school, something that will push me … something that will be a challenge,” the 29th-ranked junior in Michigan said. “I may not play freshman year, but I’ll push for it. I want a coach that knows how to coach me.”

A long list of programs have reached out to the Pennfield High School 2021.

“”I have not gone on any visits or had any offers, I’m just getting into it,” explained the sixth-rated junior shortstop in Michigan, who has talked with Penn State, Marshall, Michigan, Michigan State, Central Michigan, Western Michigan, Ball State and Eastern Michigan. “PBR really helped me get out there to show what I’ve got.”

An impressive showing at the Michigan Preseason All-State event helped the cause, with the 6-0 170-pounder running the fastest 60 in a time of 6.54 while adding an exit velocity of 98 and an infield velo of 85.

“Recruitment is going a lot better than I thought it would,” Hultink admitted. “I’ve got a lot of emails and texts, especially the last couple weeks after the last PBR, from a lot bigger schools than I thought. I’ve got a lot of MAC schools that have shown interest and also Big 10 schools.”

Most Tools and Best Runner are categories Hultink was listed in after the PBR Fall Future Games and Western Upperclass event in November.

“They like my speed and power/velocity,” Hultink said of qualities that have dazzled colleges during his recruitment. “Speed and strength go hand-in-hand. I’ve gotten a lot stronger and faster, but I’ve always had speed. My range in the infield is another thing they like.”
