This Sunday, Feb. 6, the Prep Baseball Report will host the 20th annual Super 60 Pro Showcase. This prestigious, invitation-only event features only the top draft prospects in the Prep Baseball Report’s expansive coverage area. Over the last 19 years, the Super 60 has become the most heavily scouted preseason event for potential draft picks. The primary purpose of the Super 60 is to give professional area scouts, cross-checkers and scouting directors a head start to the high school season. The event is for draft-eligible Class of 2022 prospects.

Illinois and Wisconsin will be well represented this weekend at The MAX, which is a testament to how deep this 2022 class is in both states. In total, 11 players from our two states will be in attendance.

Below is a quick highlight of which players are set to attend the Super 60 this Sunday.

ILLINOIS

POSITION PLAYERS

Luke Adams 3B / OF / Hinsdale Central, IL / 2022

From 1/27/22: "...Headlining this class for the Spartans is Adams, and his presence on campus should he not hear his name called in July would bring a huge boost to a team eager to compete in the Big 10. Adams owns one of the strongest right-handed bats in the Midwest and we’ve seen the ultra-physical 6-foot-4, 223-pound specimen regularly produce max exit velocities north of 100 mph. Adams is an incredible athlete for his size as well, consistently running sub-6.80s in the 60-yard dash at events in 2021. He’d likely be an impact player from the very beginning for the Spartans with true middle-of-the-order upside."

Hayden Christiansen C / 1B / Richmond-Burton, IL / 2022

From 9/9/21: "...While representing Hitters Baseball, Illinois Christiansen came ready to swing it. He’s established himself as one of the most reliable sluggers in the upper Midwest this year. His slower days are loud, and his hot days are even louder. Every game I’ve seen him play results with at least one ball being obliterated. Not a lot of teenagers make the deep ball look this easy. The box presence is rather intimidating for the high school level. Standing wide and crouched with spaced elbows. I’ve never seen him get tied up on the inside half. Perhaps this is due to the spacing he creates between the elbows, and the space he leaves between his arms and his body. He makes an up-down stride that transitions from a bit closed to square, and wastes no time delivering the barrel to impact. If you don’t know what number he wears, listen for a loud crack of the bat, followed by an audible grunt. Christiansen has made me a real believer in his bat, and I’d love to see it against the best pitching on a daily basis. He offers Sammy Sosa enthusiasts an outlet to reminisce.”

Victor Izquierdo 1B / C / Lockport, IL / 2022

From 1/29/22: "...6-foot-2, 210-pounds; broad-shouldered ultra-physical frame. The right-handed hitter turned in perhaps the most eye-opening round of BP on the day; starting in an open setup, slight knee-knock at times into a coiled upper-half, creating hand-separation at foot-strike while keeping a consistent rhythm. Utilizes controlled aggression through his swing with a max bat speed of 78.6 according to BLAST, uphill path through the zone with intent to lift baseball, produced backspin while routinely making loud contact (71.4 hard-hit percentage according to BLAST; 102 mph max exit velocity and 92.6 mph average exit velocity). Profiles as a true middle-of-the-order power bat with feel to hit. On the other side of the ball, Izquierdo shows natural actions with impressive athleticism, especially given his physical frame; demonstrating the ability to handle errant throws with ease and picking balls in the dirt consistently throughout the event. The Navy commit also showed athletic feet around the base with impressive flexibility on low throws, showing body control throughout all infield-actions. By far one of the day’s biggest winners and is a definite name to know for this coming spring."

Estevan Moreno SS / 3B / Montini Catholic, IL / 2022

From 7/6/21: "...Notre Dame commit. Long, loose athletic 6-foot-2, 200-pound body resembles Manny Machado. Notre Dame recruit ran the sixty in 6.58 seconds with a long, athletic stride. Easy swing with big leg lift approach. Showed plus juice to left center field in batting practice and got to it during game play with a long home run to straight away left field and another just foul down the line. Longer infield actions with sure hands and good body control. Showed an average pro grade arm at this point, with plus likely in the near future. Moreno profiles as an everyday guy at the Major League level at the hot corner.”

Alex Stanwich OF / RHP / Lincoln-Way East, IL / 2022

From 4/23/21: "...Tennessee commit, currently ranked No. 1 overall in the state of Illinois. Listed at a 6-foot-1, 190-pounds, strong athletic build, right-handed hitting outfielder. Had an impressive day against No. 2 Brother Rice at the time. At the plate, has a simple swing, generating easy plus power. Strong, loose hands, working to the whole field. Went 2-for-3, with a RBI single on a curveball and hit a two-strike, home run to left-center field. Also came in to pitch out of the bullpen. Stretch-only delivery, shoulders stay leveled, lands square and athletically. Long arm action, high ¾ slot. Fastball works mostly straight, sat 87-88 mph, topped at 90 mph. Sharp breaking 11/5 curveball, at 72 mph. Worked himself into a bases loaded, no outs situation in the bottom of the six. Struck out the next batter and then induced an inning-ending double play to escape the jam. Stanwich worked a three-up, three-down seventh to close out the game. One of the top 2022 prospects in the Midwest.”

Brendan Summerhill OF / C / Whitney Young, IL / 2022

From 9/17/21: "...Summerhill, a recent Arizona commit, delivered plenty of results throughout the summer, and possesses a pro-ready 6-foot-3, 195-pound frame that produces intriguing power potential. The left-handed hitter is a 6.59-runner with the ability to impact the baseball before accelerating out of the box, and his uphill path and powerful stroke are likely to intrigue MLB scouts in the midwest all spring. Balanced at the plate with the ability to move smoothly through contact, there is intent to do damage with each swing including some controlled aggression with fast hands. Given his professional profile, Summerhill should receive plenty of interest next spring."

PITCHERS

Owen Murphy 3B / RHP / Riverside-Brookfield, IL / 2022

From 8/17/21: "...Murphy doesn’t jump out physically, standing at about 6-foot-1, 180 pounds, and the tools aren’t super loud, but he’s a good athlete and does a lot of things well on both sides of the ball. A legitimate two-way prospect, the needle might point a little more toward him being a pitcher long term. In four innings across two appearances, he allowed just two hits and a walk while striking out 10. From a high-3/4 slot, he has an athletic delivery and pitches with regular effort, pumping low-90s fastballs with life. His slider is firm, ranging from 84-89 with hard, late break. He also mixes in a 75-77 curveball with good spin and sharp downer break. At the plate, he keeps the barrel in the hitting zone and can drive the ball to all fields. He has good actions on the infield and first-step quickness. His throws are accurate with plenty of carry. In five games, he went 4-for-9 with a double and home run.”

Ethan Patera RHP / Downers Grove South, IL / 2022

From 5/20/21: "...Louisville commit, ranked No. 6 in the Illinois 2022 class. Strong 6-foot-4 230-pound frame with broad shoulders and a developed lower-half. One of the premier right-handed arms in the state. Clean ¾ arm action. Polished delivery; loads well into his back leg and uses his lower-half well, creating a lot of power going down the mound, drop and drive type delivery, advanced hip-shoulder separation, strides in-line with the plate. Patera started on the mound and went six innings while only allowing two hits, walking five and striking out nine. Showcase a late-jumping fastball with arm-side life that sat 92-94 mph early on, touching 95 mph once; settled in at 90-94 mph later in the game. He went to a plus slider that was in the 79-82 mph range, with late 10/4 action and thrown with conviction. Changeup was thrown sparingly and in the 83-84 mph range with arm-side action and thrown with the same arm-speed as his fastball. High-level 2022 Prospect.”

WISCONSIN

Gavin Kilen SS / 2B / Milton, WI / 2022

From 8/23/21: "...Kilen did not strikeout at the event and went 3-for-11 with three walks, and showed well as one of the surest-handed infielders in the class. The left-handed hitter plays hard with a low pulse and is crisp in everything that he does. Balanced at the plate with minimal hand separation and stride, he shows the ability to barrel the ball consistently, spraying line drives to all fields. The 5-foot-11, 172-pounder possesses advanced glove-to-hand ability, and can likely stick at shortstop early on with the ability to play any spot on the dirt."

Will Vierling C / 1B / Homestead, WI / 2022

From 9/19/21: "...It’s good to see the top backstop in Wisconsin get back on the field after being sidelined by injury. Since seeing him resurface at July's 17U PBR at The Rock Championships, it appears as if Vierling (Louisville) is back at full strength. He showed well at the at Grand Park and wasted no time getting going offensively. His first at-bat of the weekend resulted in a well struck ground-rule double deep in the alley. It was great to see some easy pop off the lumber which carried with true flight. He’s a very dense body with strong hands. He gets into a comfortable setup with his hands relaxed, and the barrel close to his neck. The rhythm is small and quiet, and packs a punch in a direct attack to the baseball. I’ve seen a natural tendency to attack from inside and use the opposite field. Recently, there's been more pop as he gets more comfortable returning from injury. Vierling appears to be seeing the ball very well, and it wouldn’t surprise me if his offense transitions well to the college game quickly."

Mitchell Voit RHP / 3B / Whitefish Bay , WI / 2022

From 9/19/21: "...You could make a strong argument that Voit, a Michigan recruit, has been the most productive and versatile athlete throughout Wisconsin this year. To put simply, there’s nothing he can’t do on the diamond and his manner of execution comes with ease. He starts and wins the biggest games for his unit on the mound, as well as carries a big stick to the plate while holding down the hot corner. Here, we’ll focus on the appeal to his offensive offering. Voit has become a respected run-producer in the middle of a very dangerous ‘22 lineup. Setting up wide and athletic with comfortable hands, striding with a no-nonsense, up-down action. His path is flat, and the attack is direct with barrel quickness. One aspect of the swing that I find attractive is his ability to “close the gap” quickly upon heel plant. It’s become the norm to see Voit drill line shots off the wall with great frequency, even while he mows down opposing lineups on the mound."
