Illinois Signing Day 2018

On Wednesday, Nov. 14, 2018, prospects are officially eligible to sign a National Letter of Intent (NLI) to mark their binding commitment to attend that school and continue their playing careers. Today, Wednesday, marks the start of a whirlwind period in which a flurry of Illinois-area prospects will pledge their allegiance to a collegiate program in an official capacity.

However, this year’s signing period is different than in years past. Previously, there have been two separate signing periods for seniors to signs the NLIs: an early one-week-long period that took place around this time of year, and one that opened back up in April and ended in August. This year, the NCAA and the NLI have decided to merge the signing dates into one single period, ranging from Nov. 14 to Aug. 1.

Read this passage, taken from the always helpful Recruiting Essentials, put together by the North Carolina Director of Scouting Brandon Hall:

“Beginning on Nov. 14, 2018, a prospect will have seven days to sign an NLI for it to be valid. A player in the senior class can sign with their chosen school anytime between the 14th and Aug. 1, 2019… For players that are not committed, moving forward with this year, any offer can be accompanied with an NLI from that school. Again, prospects will have seven days to sign that NLI. If a prospect does not sign that NLI within seven days, they can still sign with said school, but would have to be issued a new NLI.”
