Impact 2021's

Shooter Hunt
National Crosschecker

This week, On the Hunt dives into the 2021 class with eight prospects who could make some noise throughout the spring and into the summer. Impressive strength, twitchy actions, and the possibility of becoming impact players at the next level is seen in these high-ceiling players. Players on the list this week hail from: Illinois, Massachusetts, Missouri, New Jersey, North Carolina, Texas, Virginia, and Wisconsin.

Blake Read LHP / OF / Muskego, WI / 2021

Read’s long limbs and clean arm should make him one of the more closely followed recruits in the midwest over the next couple of years. Standing 6-foot-1, 165-pounds with some strength to the lower-half, the southpaw puts together a more polished delivery while stepping slightly across his body to the plate. His fastball recently topped out at 84 mph in an early season bullpen for PBR Wisconsin, and his clean arm stroke and quick hand speed promise much more to come in the future. Getting extended to the plate after delivering out of a high ¾ slot, Read shows feel for a 1/7 curveball that he throws for strikes, and has sharp break. The pitch works at 68-70, and has a chance to be a swing and miss offering in the future. He also shows some feel for an aggressive changeup which he throws with fastball arm sped at 74-76. Overall, as Read continues to fill out and mature, he will have a chance to make a big jump in the future.
