3/27 - FISHERS VS. HOMESTEAD

Gavin Kuzniewski, RHP, Fishers HS, 2024 Ohio State University recruit

The Ohio State recruit had a really solid opening day appearance, tossing 2 IP without allowing a base runner and striking out 6/6 batters he faced. The athletic, 5-foot-11, 180 pounder moves down the slope with an efficient lower half that is followed by an electric right-arm, allowing him to sit 88-90 mph on his fastball in this cold weather look. Kuzniewski has really impressed me with his pitchability and pure stuff lately, throwing 72% strikes in this look with quality shape on all three pitches - including one of, if not the best, right-handed changeup in Indiana’s 2024 class at 80-83 mph. His slider is mainly used as an out-pitch at the moment, tossing it late in counts with short and sharp movement at 77-79 mph.

Alex Graber, RHP, Homestead HS, 2024

One of the top uncommitted arms still left in Indiana’s 2024 class. The athletic, 6-foot-2, 185 pounder started for Homestead and despite being on a 50 pitch count, threw 2.2 IP, allowing 1 ER, 2 BB, 3 H, while striking out 4. I loved Graber’s demeanor on the mound - an absolute competitor that looks to attack hitters. His best trait is his ability to spin a breaking ball, showing two in this look - a 72-74 mph curveball with vertical depth, and more of a sweeper-type slider at 75-77 mph. He used the curveball as more of a “get me over” pitch, while using the slider as a strikeout pitch late in counts. Graber sat 86-88 mph on his fastball in this cold weather look with occasional cut on a fastball that was a bit sporadic. Graber needs to show improvements with his fastball command to be a starter moving forward, however his ability to spin a quality breaking ball will make him a tough matchup for right-handed hitters at the next level.
