Intriguing 2020's

Each state at PBR is gearing up for its preseason kick off with events throughout the winter to showcase the improvements made by players over the off-season, and to spread the word for recruiters to discover which ones they need to see in the spring. This week, On the Hunt takes a look at six highly intriguing 2020 players that coaches will want to mark down and highlight. The impressive group features two right-handed arms from Illinois, a twitchy outfielder and two-way player from Colorado, a physically-athletic catcher from Virginia, and left-handed hitting corner infielder with advanced feel for the barrel from Massachusetts.

Colby Shade OF / RHP / Fort Collins, CO / 2020

I got a glimpse of Shade in Ft. Myers in October, and was impressed by his raw tools. A high-waisted, 6-foot-1, 165-pounder, Shade moved around gracefully in the outfield where he covered a large portion of land with long, twitchy strides. Also athletic at the plate, Shade utilizes a knee knock load as his hands work deeply down and back with the barrel tilting up late before exhibiting lag through the zone with a loose finish. Still maturing somewhat, Shade’s frame looks like it could add a substantial amount of muscle in the future, and given his quick hands a strong wrists, might allow him to hit for some power. Overall, Shade is a player that recruiters are going to want to keep a close eye on as he could catch some helium this summer. The more at-bats and live, game action that he gets will only benefit his continued growth.
