Mailbag: With New Rules, How Are Underclass Prospects Still Committing?

Brandon Hall
North Carolina Director of Scouting

Last week we took a look at how schools and recruits could approach the new September 1st rules that were in place.  This week we will look into our mailbag and address some of the questions prospects and their families are working through, especially with the new rules in place.  This Recruiting Essentials will turn to the Mailbag to continue to work to answer questions parents and prospects may have about their decision process.

MAILBAG:  How are players in the Freshman and Sophomore classes committing with the new rules in place?

From Twitter to Facebook to email, the No. 1 question posed in the last month is related to how players that are unable to take phone calls from schools are able to commit.  For the current Junior and Senior classes, the September 1st date has passed and they are free to communicate with coaches in any number of ways.  For the current Freshman and Sophomore classes they are able to text and call college coaches but the college coaches cannot text or call prospects.  College coaches are limited to one email per year to these classes and that email is not suppose to address recruiting, but is suppose to address admissions and the NCAA rules.  So, how are these players and coaches communicating?
