SCOUTING REPORT

VA/DC Scout Blog 6/14/18

Starke is one of the top players in the 2019 class. He has an athletic frame with projection left to it. Defensively, very good block/receive and has a quick release and a strong arm. Only cut loose on one throw down, it was a 1.91 with 81 as the velocity. Had one chance to throw in game but the pitch was a curveball in the glove side batter's box and the runner had a good jump. Offensively, has a quick bat with a simple stroke and power potential to all fields. Showed good approach during the game, hitting outside fastballs the other way. Also showed situational awareness, in first at-bat with Tucker on third, made sure to put ball in play to the right side to give his team a 1-0 lead. In his second at-bat (second swing in the video), stayed on an outside fastball and lined an RBI single to right center.

9.16.17:  Starke has a lankier frame, he is a good blocker and receiver. Quick release with a loose strong arm from a high three-quarters slot. Pop times were 2.01-2.09 on his between inning pops, getting up to 76 with accuracy. At the plate hits from an open athletic stance, short stride on line, smooth load back into an arm bar, rhythm to his swing. Explosive lower half with good balance to swing. Quick to ball, level line drive swing, showed good approach using whole field and barreled ball consistently. Has doubles power now with potential for more.

5.15.17: Very interesting 2019 prospect who should develop nicely as a top end catcher in the state. Athletic frame, hits from a square set up with high hands. Barreled ball well with a shorter path. Drove ball over center fielder’s head on line drive for triple. Gets around ball on swing at times. Gets after it behind the plate. Sets up a nice target, soft hands, good hip control bouncing around on dirt balls and keeping centered. Liked the motor and effort behind dish. Falls off slightly on throws down to second. Clean exchange, could get a bit quicker to release so room to knock down his already 2.07 – 2.09 pop time he averaged in between innings. Will be a nice prospect to follow as he develops.
