Missouri Draft Preview

By Shon Plack and Nathan Rode

The 2015 Major League Draft takes place June 8-10. In advance of the draft, Prep Baseball Report is posting a summary of each state in the coverage area with scouting reports on the top high school draft prospects.

For the second straight year, Missouri is home to arguably the nation’s best athlete after having OF Monte Harrison in 2014. OF Marquise Doherty (Winnetonka HS, MO) is committed to Missouri for both baseball and football. But the strength of the state’s senior class comes in arms with pitchers like RHP Matt Vierling (Christian Brothers College HS, MO) and LHP Jacob Schlesener (Logan-Rogersville HS, MO) jumping out at the Super 60 in February and warranting a follow all spring while RHP Kyle Wilson (Raymore-Peculiar HS, MO) has come on late in the season.

Top Prospects

1. Matt Vierling, RHP/OF, Christian Brothers College HS, MO
Vierling has legitimate ability to play both ways at Notre Dame, but his future in professional baseball likely lies on the mound. After missing much of 2014 with a broken leg, Vierling caught attention early in the year when he was 90-94 mph in bullpen sessions with a hard slider in the low 80s.
