NC Insider: SBA Canes Workout - Statistical Analysis

Brandon Hall
North Carolina Director of Scouting

On Saturday November 4th, the Showcase Baseball Academy held workouts for players interested in playing with the SBA Canes during the 2018 summer.  At the high school level, 16U, 15U, and 14U, there were 89 players that took part in the workout.  Players went through a pro-style workout at Charlotte Christian School in Charlotte, NC in front of SBA staff and scouts with Prep Baseball Report.

In the pro-style workout, players were able to take live BP, work through hitting stations in the cage area, and workout defensively.  Each player also ran a laser timed thirty, or sixty, based on their age level.  Prep Baseball Report was on hand to collect the verified stats.  A full release of the statistical results for each player can be seen HERE.

Several players stood out throughout the workout, showcasing an ability to make an impact for the organization offensively and defensively.  Colton Stotler (SS, West Wilkes HS, 2020) has become a familiar name on PBR, having attended a couple of events this past summer.  The 5-foot-11, 175 pound switch-hitter continues to impress.  A true switch-hitter, there is a chance to develop power from both sides of the plate.  Defensively, the feet and hands continue to gain rhythm allowing him to handle the routine ball, routinely.

Preston Hall (SS, Stuart Cramer HS, 2020) has continued to get stronger since attending the PBR Preseason All-State Showcase last January.  The left handed hitter works from an athletic base, staying in his legs as he creates lift and and bat speed through the zone.  There are some moving parts to the swing, but when centered the ball jumps off the barrel, creating a top end exit velocity of 92 mph.
