#3 Charlotte Christian - 5 Legion Collegiate Academy - 3

PBR was at Tuckassegee Park in West Charlotte for a non-conference matchup with the Knights of Charlotte Christian visiting the Lancers of Legion Collegiate.  The game ended after 6 full innings due to a lack of daylight.  After the top of the 1st there was over an hour delay as a significant thunderstorm came through the area.

The matchup featured several high end prospects on both teams.  On the mound, Charlotte Christian ran out Clemson commit, Calvert Clark.  The Lancers would counter with South Carolina commit, Xavier Pelzer.   The Knights would jump on Pelzer early, plating three in the first.  After Pelzer got two quick outs, Tanner McCammon singled and was scored on a Jakeman Pendleton triple to center.  John Lash’s double plated McCammon.  An error would score Lash, giving the Knights an early 3-0 lead.

In the 2nd, the Knights added on, again with 2 outs.  Clark walked and moved to 2B on a McCammon single.  Pendleton would come through again with a single scoring Clark and moving McCammon to 3B.  A throwing error on the play would give the Knights their 5th run.

LCA would answer in the 3rd, plating 2 runs of their own with two outs.  The key hit was a J Reed double to center, scoring Devin Parks and Laz Santos.  Reed ended the inning trying to stretch the double to a triple where the rely from Drew Beard to Tanner McCammon made its was to Knight’s 3B Judd Utermark.

Clark worked 3 innings for Charlotte Christain and was followed with 3 strong innings of relief from Ryan O’Rourke and Wesley Jones.  As a staff, the Knights struck out 10 total, while walking four.

Legion Collegiate will end its season on Thursday at Cannon School.  They are 12-4 on the year.  2022 was a transition year as they are leaving the South Carolina High School League and are working to be in the North Carolina Independent School Athletic Association.  Charlotte Christian moves to 26-3 overall.  They will await to see their post-season matchup for next week.
