After a busy but short Covid 2020 season, the PBR Nebraska Team has come together over the past few weeks to build out the PBR Nebraska 2022 Player Rankings. Today the list starts at 50 prospects, as the 2021 Season rolls around, we should see the emergence of athletes in the 2022 class and will expand these rankings to 100 before the start of their senior year. To see the full rankings, CLICK HERE.

 

TOP 10 NOTES

 

+ The top two spots belong to committed right-handed pitchers with Brandon Lundquist (Millard North, Nebraska recruit) and Ben Ayala (Elkhorn, Creighton recruit). Have you ever heard the term Spin Wins? Both Lundquist and Ayala have the ability to spin the breaking ball at a high level for a high school prospect. Lundquist has an athletic 6-1, 180-pound frame and has actions on the mound that reminds us of 2018 Grand Island graduate Shay Schanaman. Ayala's pure stuff and natural athleticism has continued to develop alongside his offerings, his 80-83 mph cutter/slider grades out to be one of the best college ready breaking balls we seen in Nebraska. Both Lundquist and Ayala should be fun to follow through the 2021 season as they continue to develop.

+ A trio of prospects in the Top 10 played in the 2020 PBR Futures Games with Maddux Fleck (Millard West, Creighton Recruit) Jonah Walker (Lincoln Pius) and Eadan Holt (Norris). Fleck is a polished switch-hitting infielder that shows above average feet and hands on the dirt; as well as 6.6 type speed allowing him to be a menace on the bases. Walker is extremely project-able physically and shows a clean arm path to release. The fastball is mid 80's now; and looks to continue to tick up over the next year. Norris product, Edan Holt, is a pure athlete with an intriguing combination of strength and speed. There is legitimate strength in the bat and Holt shows ability to consistently square baseballs. With his speed and simple ability to consistently make plays; for now he stays in the infield but offers the versatility and skill-set to transition to the outfield as well

+ Rounding out the Top 10 are another pair of uncommitted arms with Sam Novotny (Millard West) and Cody Bruss (Lincoln Northeast). Novotny is the most polished from a pure pitchability standpoint in the class and has advanced feel for his secondary offerings. He pitches in the low 80s, tops out in the mid 80s but with current frame and athleticism he could shortly develop into a mid to upper 80s arm. Bruss has a tall lean athletic frame with easy repeatable actions on the mound. Fastball was up to 85 mph this summer. It’s a long extended clean arm action from a low ¾ slot. Fastball has some natural fade action. As secondary offerings continue to develop, Bruss will be a high follow heading into his junior season.
