On the Hunt: A Feast of Uncommitted Infielders, Pitchers, and a Catcher

By Shooter Hunt

National Crosschecker

This week, On the Hunt, looks at players from the 2018, 2019, and 2020 classes. There are players with big power projections, athletic infielders, and some interesting pitchers with high ceilings and more velocity on the way.

Graham MacNeil, 3B/RHP, Brooklin HS, CAN, 2020
Already 6-foot-2 and 205-pounds, MacNeil still shows signs of more physical growth, and could be the next in a, now, long list of Canadian impact players in both professional and collegiate baseball. At the plate, MacNeil stands tall, and shows great balance with a powerful swing for his age. His stride is minimal with the bat starting rested on his shoulder before the hands load back and drive forward, impacting the baseball. Defensively, MacNeil is sure-handed while still growing into his body and developing foot speed. MacNeil’s arm carries, and is very interesting on the mound. Working with a controlled pace, MacNeil has a slight hook in the back before utilizing good present arm speed, and commanding fastballs in the zone that got up as high as 81 mph in a bullpen setting. He also flashed a good changeup (71-73), and a developing breaking ball. MacNeil’s has a big lower half that helps him get drive off the rubber, and as he continues to mature and get stronger, should lead to even more velocity.
