On the Hunt: Frontline 2020 Catchers and 2019 Infielders

This week, On the Hunt takes a closer look at three of the top catching prospects in the 2020 class, and four 2019 infielders with high ceilings who already showcase either plus speed, power, or overall game.

Trevor Kardell, C, Lee’s Summit West HS, MO, 2020
Kardell is already 6-foot-5, 175-pounds as a freshman, and his already impressive 1.9-2.05 pop times to second base stand to get even better as he continues to grow into his body. The lean right-handed hitter produced an impressive exit velocity of 89 mph at PBR Missouri’s Fall Underclass Prospect games, and that number will definitely increase as he packs on muscle to a thin frame. Kardell has a simple stance with efficient movements that include a reverse toe-tap to shift the hands back before coming through the zone. He already shows gap to gap power even without getting much hip drive. Behind the plate, the tall Kardell shows impressive footwork with a strong, accurate arm, and solid footwork. Even more intriguing about Kardell is the fact that he hopped on the mound and ran his fastball up to 84 mph, and spun a tight 10/4 breaking ball (71-72). As he continues to grow into his frame, Kardell will give recruiters many options as a possible power bat, defensive catcher, and big-bodied pitcher.
