PBR Mailbag: Trent Johnson's Return; Draft Outlook For Nick Plummer, Ashe Russell

By Nathan Rode
National Supervisor

With school back in session, seeing baseball is relegated to the weekends for now. I was able to catch a couple games in the last two days and a few players stood out, at least two of which should be followed for the 2015 draft. RHP Jason Bilous (Caravel Academy, DE) was up to 93 mph in a Sunday outing and OF Eric Jenkins (West Columbus HS, NC) showed potential at the plate to go with his elite speed.

Check out The Rode Report later for more on them. For now, let’s answer some questions…

Do you think RHP Trent Johnson (Metamora HS, IL) can return from injury and claim the No. 1 spot in Illinois’ 2015 class?
Johnson walked off the mound clutching is right elbow on March 31 and had Tommy John surgery in early April. The odds are stacked against him making a return soon enough in 2015 to be back at full strength. Tommy John surgery is typically a 12-15 month recovery process, which takes the Metamora senior into the middle of the 2015 season. Every player is different so it's certainly possible that he could be back on the mound before the season concludes, but even that isn't the end of a full recovery.
