PBR Power 25: March 17, 2020

Brandon Hall
Executive Director, PBR of NC

The PBR Power 25 is the only North Carolina High School Baseball poll that captures every team in North Carolina, regardless of classification or affiliation.  The PBR Power 25 is voted on by PBR staff and posted every other week, once the high school season begins.

We are just one week into the 2020 season and we have already seen some small shakeups in the Top 25.  While it is the nature of baseball for teams to win and to lose, the competition to be inside the Power 25 is very tight and a good week, or a bad week, can create movement.

Much of the Power 25 played very well during the week of March 9 - 15.  There was still movement as two teams jumped into the Top 10 and two teams jumped into the rankings for the first time.  The top three remain the same from last week but Myers Park, Randleman, and Cuthbertson each move up a spot as North Lincoln dropped a game during the week.  The Knights dropped back to No. 7.

At No. 8 is Wesleyan Christian Academy, who moves up three spots, even with a loss in their lone game of the week.  Wesleyan suffered the loss to Charlotte Christian, but in the process impressed several PBR scouts with the way they matched up with the No. 1 team in the Power 25.  The lineup showed depth and an ability to create scoring opportunities and the bullpen held up as well.

The biggest drop comes from DH Conley who moves to No. 22 from No. 8.  We hope the season still has some length and we believe Conley is a club that could get hot.  At the moment they are playing in a tight games and have a .500 record.

New to the rankings this week are Garner at No. 22 and Whiteville at No. 25.  Garner has played very well with a young lineup and without Nolan McLean (RHP/SS, 2020) throwing in a game yet.  There is plenty of depth on the staff, and it will get deeper once the season picks up again.  Whiteville has been able to ride its senior leadership, playing a competitive and clean brand of baseball.  Year in and year out Whiteville is in the mix at the end of the year.  2020 may not be much different.

As we move forward, we hope that all high school baseball fans are taking precautions against COVID-19.  Our sincere hope is to be back on the road in April as the high school season is back in action.  Should it take a little longer, do not fear, PBR will be there to continue our coverage.   In the coming weeks we expected to have a lot of game and player coverage.  At this time we are shifting our plans and we will continue to bring a lot of information on high school baseball and high school baseball players from across the state.
