PBR ProCase - Midwest: Statistical Analysis

Diego Solares & Kevin Cronin
Illinois & Wisconsin Scouting Staff

On Tuesday, July 6, multiple Prep Baseball Report scouting staffs collaborated to host the PBR ProCase - Midwest event at Triton College in River Grove, IL. This annual invite-only event served as a kick off to identifying the top prospects in the 2022 draft class along with select 2021 prospects. With the MLB draft moving back into July, this was one of the first events of the summer that turned pro scouts' attention directly toward the 2022 class.

Shortly after the event’s conclusion, our Director of College Scouting David Seifert and longtime scouting professional Tad Slowik collaborated on our Quick Hits piece, highlighting several standouts from the day. Today, we’ll shine some light on those who stood out from a statistical standpoint inside our traditional stat story. As the week rolls on, be on the lookout for more data-riched content thanks to the help of our partners at TrackMan and Blast Motion.

+ OF Cuyler Zukowski (Madison LaFollette, 2022; Creighton) started his workout off strong, running a 6.55 in the 60-yard dash - the fastest recorded time of the event.

+ INF/OF Luke Adams (Hinsdale Central, 2022; Michigan State) came away from the ProCase as one of the all-around winners, especially from a statistical standpoint. Built at a proportionally strong 6-foot-4, 211-pound frame with ultra-physical strength attached, Adams started his day by running a 6.79 in the 60-yard dash; an impressive number for someone his size. Adams tied for the hardest batted ball of the day, blasting one off his barrel at 104 mph. He uncorked 90+ mph throws both on the infield (92) and outfield (94), leading the event in both categories.

+ Another winner from the ProCase, INF Estevan Moreno (Montini Catholic, 2022; Notre Dame) put up some impressive numbers. Standing at 6-foot-2, 200-pounds, Moreno ran the second fastest 60-yard dash of the day, clocking in at 6.58 seconds on our lasers. He juiced one up at 101 mph in BP and also fired an 88 mph strike across the infield for his hardest recorded throw.

+ Representing the 2023 class, C Ryan Bakes (Huntley; South Carolina commit) continued to make a name for himself as a high-follow national name in the incoming junior class. Bakes is built at a compact, broad-shouldered 5-foot-10, 187-pound frame with one of the more physical skill-sets around. He’s a 6.72 runner that also topped at 83 mph from the chute, five ticks higher than the next best backstop. Bakes also comfortably led the event in average pop times, regularly recording times in the 1.92 to 1.98 range; he was the only catcher to only average pop times under two seconds.

+ RHP Brayden Risedorph (East Noble, IN, 2022; Parkland JC) showcased some pretty physical arm strength during his lone inning of work. A 6-foot-3, 2350pound right-hander, Risedorph threw the hardest bullet of the day, topping at 95 mph while sitting exclusively in the 93-95 mph range. RHP Jake Swartz (Normal University, 2022; Illinois) finished one tick below Risedorph for the event high, maxing at 94 mph with his fastball while sitting at 91-93 mph throughout.
