PBR Summer Kickoff - 16U Game Recaps

With June arriving the summer circuit is in full swing and PBR hosted 10 teams at two facilities, covering the 2020 and 2021 graduates. At the 2020 level, teams played at Craven Stadium in Ramseur, NC over four days. Each club was scheduled to play four games. At the 2021 level, teams played at Northwest Guilford HS, running through a modified pro-style workout and playing four games over two days.
For the entire weekend, PBR was on hand, at each site, to evaluate the teams and players in attendance. Below is a quick recap of some of the sites and sounds from the PBR Summer Kickoff Team Event on June 8 - 11.
16U / 2020 Grads at Craven Stadium
Friday June 8
Game 1 NCBA Golden Spikes 13 5 Star Carolina Vipers 0
The Golden Spikes got off to a quick start and never looked back in their win over the Vipers. Jacob Schafer (LHP/1B, Southwest Guilford, 2020) homered to left and tripled in the game. Golden Spikes starter Luke Barrow (RHP, Wesleyan Christian, 2020) was up to 86, striking out 4 in his 3 innings of work.
Game 2 5 Star Carolina Vipers 6 v 2020 On Deck O’s 7
On Deck stormed out to a 6-2 lead and needed a nice double play in the last frame to hold off a comeback from a resilient 5 Star squad. Carson Davis (OF, Parkwood HS, 2020) provided some late inning excitement with a 2 RBI double in the left-center gap, which showcased his pop to the pull side. Jack Tidwell (RHP, South Mecklenburg HS, 2020) threw for the O’s, going 4 innings, walking 1 and striking out 3, and showcasing a plus changeup that induced weak contact all night.
