THE HOTLIST: WHAT TO WATCH FOR IN 2017

The year 2017 is upon us, so we’re looking ahead to stories to watch. Each state in Prep Baseball Report’s coverage area has submitted a top storyline for the year ahead, but a repeating theme is pitch counts. The National Federation of State High School Associations revised its pitching policy last summer, mandating that each member association develop its own pitching restriction based on the number of pitches thrown during a game to give pitchers a required rest period between appearances. ON THE HUNT: UNCOMMITTED ARMS AND ATHLETES READY FOR NATIONAL EXPOSURE

As 2017 sets in, spring, and more importantly baseball season, is right around the corner. PBR’s preseason All-State games are scheduled all over the country in the near future, and players are preparing themselves for the upcoming season. This week, On the Hunt, zeroes in on some uncommitted players who are ready to make their mark on 2017, and will be valued greatly by college recruiters. FIELD SET FOR 2017 NHSI

The sixth annual USA Baseball National High School Invitational will be played March 29-April 1, and the 16-team field was announced Thursday at the ABCA Convention in Anaheim, CA. Five previous participants return, including the 2016 champion in Huntington Beach HS, CA. Also coming back are Hamilton HS, AZ, Orange Lutheran HS, CA, American Heritage HS, FL, and Rocky Mountain HS, CO. This will be the third trip for Huntington Beach and Orange Lutheran. Read More >>

MICHIGAN INSIDER: MIKE MAHER - HUMBLE, TALENTED AND PATIENT

South Lyon High School senior Mike Maher stands in a league of his own as far as Prep Baseball Report is concerned.

Maher is the only current player in the top 30 ranked players by PBR Michiganwho has not made a commitment to the college level.

The humble athlete is in no hurry to make that announcement.

“I have not made a decision yet,” Maher said. “Be patient is the card that I am playing. I do become anxious sometimes, but I am staying patient.” Read More >>

Originally from Mountain View, Calif., it may be fitting that D.J. Edwards is helping to change the way young baseball talent is being viewed here in the Rocky Mountains as well as what it can do on the game’s highest levels.
