WELCOME TO PBR ARIZONA

With great pleasure, we bring to you Prep Baseball Report Arizona. Our mission in Arizona mirrors that of our other state-specific coverage: to provide the most comprehensive in-state scouting information, to promote high school baseball and, ultimately help Arizona prep athletes achieve their dreams of playing baseball at the next level. Our goal is to be the year-round No. 1 scouting resource for prep baseball in Arizona.

Although it will take some time to achieve the status of our other 35 states, we are certain we have the right person to thoroughly, accurately and honestly scout Arizona:

Jordon Banfield.

RECRUITING ESSENTIALS: COACHES ARE WATCHING
By Brandon Hall
North Carolina Director of Scouting

We have all heard of the proverbial “Book of Baseball”.  This is the book that tells players and coaches how to act in certain situations on the baseball field…

+ Don’t bunt for a hit in the final innings of a potential no-hitter

+ Don’t steal bases up 6+ runs in the final few innings

+ Pitchers have the right to buzz a hitter if the hitter shows up a pitcher

Just as in this case, there is a “Book” for recruits.  Some of the things coaches are evaluating do not have anything to do with whether a player can play baseball and it really does not give any insight into the character of the player.  But it is in the “Book” and players “should know better”.  We are going to walk through some of the things that we as coaches have heard other coaches say, or evaluate.  The idea is that players

should know, because whether or not it has any effect on the game, or gives any insight to the player, coaches are watching.

THE BUZZ: DAX FULTON COMMITS TO VANDERBILT
By Nathan Rode and PBR Staff

LHP Dax Fulton (Mustang HS, OK) was one of the biggest risers from the 2017 Future Games, jumping to No. 2 in the state behind only RHP Nate Wohlgemuth (Owasso HS, OK). Fulton, a 6-foot-6, 210-pounder) was 84-87 mph there and mixed in a swing-and-miss breaking ball with depth. He is now off the board with his verbal commitment to Vanderbilt.

SS Jonathan Ornelas (Kellis HS, AZ), a big standout at the Area Code Games, was one of the top uncommitted seniors in the country. He just committed to Tennessee. Ornelas is an advanced defender and shows a loose swing and solid bat speed at the plate.
