Crushed by the cancellation of the 2020 spring season, and perhaps even more so the minimal options for play throughout the summer, the Pacific Northwest’s ‘22 class missed out on some key opportunities to perform in front of college coaches over the past year. But hope is in the air as 2021 begins, and a high school baseball season is scheduled to begin in just over a month with all players itching to get back on the field. The PBR Northwest Preseason Invitational gave players an opportunity to showcase the advancements they have made, and especially to give college coaches an early follow list for when the spring season kicks off. There were numerous uncommitted standouts throughout this junior class at the event including a plethora of future collegiate players, and the Pacific Northwest’s reputation as a “hidden gem” did not disappoint. Below, National Crosschecker, Shooter Hunt, takes a look at “9 to Know” uncommitted 2022s.

Caleb Gray C / 3B / West Valley, WA / 2022

Gray was a clear “winner” at the event as he showcased big power potential from both sides of the plate as a switch-hitting catcher. At 6-foot-1, 210-pounds he has a sturdy, compact frame with athleticism that allows him to move fluidly through a handsy load and gain ground through impact. The advanced metrics shine on his power potential, as the average exit velocity (94.41 mph) and peak (101.91 mph) were in the tops at the event, and the max distance of 371 feet is eye opening. A quality defender who produces accurate throws to second base, the bat is likely to carry him at the next level, and is more than enough for college coaches to want to follow him closely moving forward.
