Illinois Preseason I.D. - Lockport: Top Overall

Today, we’ll take our very last look at the preseason Lockport event from mid-February by examining the showcase’s top overall prospects, separated by class.
With so much talent to sift through, it was these names below that still managed to stand out at the event. Three 2019 catchers made the cut, including Jack Jonota (Stevenson), who showed an impressive defensive skillset.
Of the 2020 prospects, two right-handers sjhowed well on the mound. Ryan Manikowski of Providence Catholic and Joliet Catholic’s Alberto Lamas each further established themselves as underclass follows moving forward.
And in general, this particular group of freshman ranked below showed above-average tools for their age. Ryan Moerman, a middle infielder at Lockport, demonstrated skill beyond his years and asserted himself as one of the most high-follow prospects from the event’s freshman class in attendance.

BRANDON MCPHERSONRHP / SS / MARMION, IL / 20186-foot-3, 230 pound, strong, athletic right handed pitching prospect. Drop and drive delivery, utilizes lower half very well and creates angle and tilt down in the zone, repeatable delivery. Directionally in line, slightly closed landing, occasionally falls to first base side, athletic finish. Regular effort throughout, long arm action, quick arm speed out front with an over the top slot. Fastball is heavy, creates downhill tilt, flashed hard sink when down in the zone, sat 88-90 mph, topped 91 mph. Curveball, 12/6 shape, breaks early out of the hand, ranged 73-79 mph. Slider, similar curveball shape, fluid arm speed, ranged 74-77 mph. |
