ProCase Watch - Uncommitted Talent from West to East Coast

With two ProCases taking place last week in Canada, the one thing came to mind is the collection of uncommitted talent at both events. We get that Canada can get overlooked, but schools who want to recruit the great white north are in luck as there is high school seniors to high school freshman who have impact collegiate athlete written all over them.

We break some of the top uncommitted talent and combine the players from both ProCases to put together a pretty impressive team.

The Rotation

Griffin was the best we’ve seen him this year, and followed that up on the weekend with 13 punchouts over 6 innings of work. Curveball showed improvements and its a quick, left-handed arm that sat 85-87 as he pounded the zone. Elliot and Saul both pass the eye test at 6-foot-4 and 6-foot-5. Saul works with ease and three pitches while Elliott is a wide shoulder righty who can spin his curveball and has the makings of a flame throwing righty who should add to his 87 mph heater moving forward. McQuaid may have the best stuff from this group, the fastball runs arm side and gets on hitters quickly and induce a lot of weak swings and ground balls, he backs that up with a 12/6 hammer that is tight and late with fall off the table action. Jacob Davies rounds out the rotation as an athletic, quick armed right-hander who has the stuff and off-speed where it’s gonna have life and could really turn into something special as he continues to develop.

The Outfield

Athletic and quick can be an understatement for the Ontario prospects in this group. Brown and Clarke have both ran 6.5 sixties in the past and both have above average arms as the ball jumps out their hands with carry and ride. Gernon, a 2018 senior possesses current strength and let’s it eat from the right side while Jude Hall, a young 2020 left-handed bat is someone to keep an eye on moving forward as there is some feel and hand eye there at the plate.

On The Dirt

Beitel is a Junior with a solid all around feel for game. He moves well at shortstop but as he gets bigger, could see a switch to third, the bat had some surprising pop and the lean 6-foot-2 frame suggests more to come as he adds strength. Johnston is the top uncommitted infielder in Ontario with smooth, easy actions and glove that can pick it. It’s a line drive, gap to gap approach with ability to do many things to contribute, no brainer for someone looking to add to their middle. Steen controls the bat from left side, line drives and barrels and runs a 7.00 sixty, profiles more of a second base at next level with offensive input at top of the order while McCabe is a 19’ that is gonna hit and hit with some power from both sides of the plate.

Behind The Dish

All the 2019 catchers are big and physical bodies who all have power, with Diodati being the left-handed hitter from the four. Leitch has that different sound coming off the bat and shows his strength staying big part of the field. Dykstra will bang with bat speed and power while he has arm strength to stay behind the dish. Diodati hits moon shots and was one of the top bats last year at Future Games with current pull side power. Young is athletic and quick defensively, as he the footwork stands out, it’s gap to gap with more pull power at the plate right now, and he too is physical with strong hands and forearms. Four guys who can fill a need and lots of power projection in this crew above.
