Procase Spotlight Preview - Left Handed Pitchers

Brandon Hall
North Carolina Director of Scouting

Sunday February 11th, Prep Baseball Report of NC will run its first PBR Procase at Diamond Xtreme in Kernersville, NC.  The Procase is designed to bring top end pro prospects to one facility for PBR and area pro scouts to get an early look for the spring.  The event roster will be kept very small with each player receiving a recommendation from pro scout to earn an invitation.

At this time, the roster of 15 is nearly locked for Sunday’s event.  While there are a couple of more players expected to register, we will begin our spotlight previews for the event.  To kickoff the spotlight preview we will look at some of the left handed pitchers attending.  Five lefties are currently attending with several eyeing big springs and the potential to be on draft boards come June.

Luke Little (2018, LHP, East Mecklenburg HS) towers over the competition with a large frame.  The arm has been up to 87 in front of PBR staff, with reports of better velocity on certain occasions.  Little competed at the Area Code Games last summer in Long Beach, CA, showing well in front of a throng of college coaches and pro scouts.  Committed to Gardner Webb, there will be scouts eager to see how he has continued to develop this off-season.

Ryan Chasse (2018, LHP, Middle Creek HS) and Tyler Tuthill (LHP, 2018, Pro5 Academy) present different body types but both could draw interest from pro scouts.  Chasse has a strong frame, listed at 245 pounds, while Tuthill is long and lanky, standing 6-foot-3, 205 pounds.  Both possess strong arms with Chasse, a Campbell commit, touching 88 at the State Games of NC, and Tuthill working up to 87 on several occasions.

Bennett Nance (2018, LHP, Morehead HS) is familiar with PBR events, attending the Future Games in Indianapolis in 2016.  Shortly after the event Nance committed to UNC.  Polished on the bump, the slider is advanced, allowing him to get a high percentage of swing and miss.

The top left handed prospect attending is 2019 Chris Villaman (Ledford HS).  The fastball has been up to 93 from an athletic frame.  Strength and quickness exist and should he attend NC State, where he is committed, he may be able to swing the bat some too.  Ranked No. 2 in North Carolina and No. 9 overall, the Procase will allow scouts in attendance to get a jump on their 2019 list.
