SAN ANTONIO - As the end of the regualr season approaches, each game holds great importance for final seeding and playoff potential. The two 27-6A teams taking the field on Tuesday night were all in such positions. Game one of the night included the Johnson Jaguars, who are sitting in 2nd place in the district, and the South San Bobcats, who are tied for 3rd. Game two saw the Chargers of Churchill High School and the MacArthur Brahmas duke it out for possession of 5th place, and fighting for a playoff berth.

Johnson 7 - South San 0
The Jaguar’s bats tallied 8 hits in six innings and two hitters put on a power display with the long ball. 2019 3B Joshua Keating went 2-3 on the night with two home runs in back-to-back plate appearances. Keating has a stout 6-foot-2 205-pound frame, and he showed strong rotational power and bat speed in all three ABs, even on the towering flyout to center in his first trip to the plate. 2019 Catcher Dominic Tamez (Arkansas commit ranked No. 56 in the state) also had a big fly on the evening as he went 1-3. Tamez has always shown the ability to produce plus bat speed, but what stood out most in his ABs on the evening was the extension that he was getting through contact, keeping his barrel through the zone for a very long time. 2020 OF Donovan Sanders was 1-2 on the evening with a shot to the centerfield wall that allowed him to showcase his peak speed, earning a standup triple for two RBI in the first inning. Sanders has impressed all spring with his play in all aspects, and should be someone to keep an eye on over the summer.

On the mound, 2019 SS/RHP Dylan Johnson (Texas A&M Corpus Christi signee) was able to hold the free-swinging South San lineup down through six innings. He limited the Bobcats to just two hits, two walks, and tallied seven strikeouts. His fastball worked in the 82-85 range, topping 86 mph. His control of his curveball fluctuated throughout the evening, but the pitch, which clocked in at 67-70, showed late bite at times. The Jaguars turned to 2020 RHP Nathan Dettmer (Texas A&M commit) to close out game. Dettmer, the No. 45 ranked junior in the state, showed scattered command, issuing two walks in the inning, but his fastball velocity was up to 86-88 and he maintained the shutout victory.

MacArthur 8 - Churchill 3
The Brahmas were able to jump out to a quick lead in the first inning, one that they would never give up. MacArthur’s 8 runs came off of only five hits, and they capitalized on the five walks and three errors.
