Scout Notes: Pro5 Academy Visits Gaston CC

Brandon Hall
Mid-Atlantic Scouting Director

PBR was at Gaston CC on Wednesday October 19th to continue our coverage of high school and junior college players in North Carolina.  The day included two, seven inning scrimmages between the Rhinos of Gaston CC and Pro5 Academy.  Both clubs started the day with full BP.  Each club played a variety of players in the scrimmage setting, giving themselves a chance to get high quality reps against a solid opponent.

This was our second look at Gaston CC, after seeing them at the Region X Showcase at Campbell University earlier in the fall.  You can see the player evaluations and notes from the Campbell event HERE.  Gaston CC is in their 2nd year of playing in Region X, having resurrected the baseball program in 2021.  Gaston finished their 1st year of action, winning the Region X regular season championship at the DII level.  For the 2023 season, we expect the Rhinos to start the season ranked fairly high, with high expectations as they will play as a Region X D1 member.

Pro5 Academy has continued to grow their roster and brand over the past several years, playing out of Ting Stadium in Holly Springs, NC.  The roster is made up of high school players, drawing players from the east coast with a large contingent of players from NC.  Throughout the fall season, Pro5 will play a variety of teams, including other high schools, as well as Junior College programs.

The scrimmage setting does not lend to full game reports as the score was not of any importance.  Below we have game notes and player evaluations for players that impressed from both organizations.  As a note, most of the Gaston CC arms were down 1-3 mph from their outings early in the fall.  The Rhino coaching staff predicted this prior to the scrimmage based on the team’s workload in the weight room and on the field recently.
