Southern Catchers

Shooter Hunt
National Crosschecker

After focussing on pitchers for a few weeks, In the Weeds shifts to some of the overlooked or undervalued catchers in the 2019 class. This week, players from Arizona, Florida, North Carolina, and Oklahoma highlight more southern catchers with a northern portion coming next week.

Parker Aultman C / OF / Newberry, FL / 2019

Aultman could end up blossoming into solid piece for some school’s recruiting class, as he exhibits the athleticism needed to make quicker adjustments in the future. Equipped with an athletic, 6-foot, 185-pound frame, Aultman is a sub-7.0 runner (6.95) who exhibits strength at the plate. The right-handed hitter has a strong bottom hand that he utilizes to pull through the zone on a level plane with some lag. He sets up in an open and crouched stance, and squares off with a short stride that triggers his hands back before they showcase some quickness through the zone. Aultman currently showcases gap power, and may develop more in the future as he matures. Looking to find his way into a lineup at the next level, Aultman may be able to play any corner position or catch. Behind the plate he has a strong, accurate arm although his transfer and footwork are still improving. Overall, Aultman’s strength and athleticism should attract coaches at some level, and given the time to develop, he could become a solid contributor for a school at some level.
