Statistical Analysis: South Atlantic Border Battle

Ting Park in Holly Springs, NC hosted the South Atlantic Border Battle this past weekend, featuring some of the best high school players from NC, SC, VA, MD, DE, and DC.  Prep Baseball Report of North Carolina was on hand to take in the games and workouts on Friday, Saturday, and Sunday.  Players were hand picked to attend and assigned to teams coached by area MLB Scouts.

Friday night featured the Future Games with players in the 2021 and 2022 graduating classes.  The New York Mets and New York Yankees sponsored the Futures North and Futures South teams.  Each team took a full batting practice, followed by a pro-style infield/outfield session.  The nine inning game was played in a modified fashion, working to control pitch counts while still giving college coaches and pro scouts in attendance and glimpse at each player.

Saturday and Sunday featured players from the different regions split up predominately by their home state.  Players from North Carolina represented the Atlanta Braves for the 2019 graduates and the Boston Red Sox for the 2020 graduates.  Other North Carolina players were assigned to the Padres (2019) and Yankees (2020).  On Saturday, these teams took a full batting practice and infield/outfield.  They also played a controlled seven inning scrimmage.  Players had the choice to run a 60 yard dash on the turf surface as well.

In the coming days we will take a full look at the players in attendance, but today we will concentrate on some of the numbers posted from the event.  While this event takes place in the early fall season, with many players still rounding into form from some down-time after the summer circuit, there were several players that made statements with their performances.
