Summer Standouts @ LakePoint - Uncommitted 2020 LHPs

This summer Prep Baseball Report ran four tournaments at LakePoint Sporting Community in Emerson, GA. Thousands of prospects flooded through the gates to play in some of the most highly competitive tournaments in the country hosted at a state-of-the-art facility. Today, we take a look back at some of the top uncommitted prospects still on the market who visited our confines this summer. We start with, what seems to be the hottest commodity, seven left-handed pitchers, from around the country. Keep reading below for reports and video from each prospect's appearance at LakePoint

CAMERON HOODLHP / 1B / VERRADO, AZ / 2020 Rankings  StateRank: 54 / POS: 7 6/8/19 - Uncommitted. Currently ranked No. 54 in AZ. 6-foot-5, 215-pound left-handed pitcher, physical with room for additional filling out, projects well. Slings it from a ¾ slot, stabbing action on the back-side, quickly accelerates. Works on-line, opens up lower half on stride, finishes athletically. Fastball sat 81-84 mph (has been up to 87). Manipulates slurve-like breaking ball, features a sharper version that plays in the upper 70s, takes some off at-times creating a loopy break in the mid 60s. /var/www/html/login/modules/Playerss/shortcodes.json not found

MATTHEW FLANAGANLHP / 1B / WESTSIDE, GA / 2020 6/14/19 - 6-foot-6 170 pounds. Long, lanky frame and uses it to his advantage. Saw his FB get up to 83, although it plays up with 8ft of extension. Deceptive CH showing arm side run. Much more room left to mature into his figure making him a very projectable LHP in the 2020 class. /var/www/html/login/modules/Playerss/shortcodes.json not found

BRYCETON PAYNELHP / GREATER ATLANTA CHRISTIAN SCHOOL, GA / 2020 6/13/19 - 6-foot-0 170 pounds; proved to be a solid left-handed pitching prospect out of the 2020 class. FB was consistently 82-84mph and got as high as 86 (2222rpm). Tight SL with 2/7 shape; 73mph and 1900rpm. Pounds the strike zone with both pitches. JOSEPH SHAPIROLHP / 1B / GLENBROOK SOUTH, IL / 2020 Rankings  StateRank: 139 / POS: 12 6/20/19 - a 6-foot-1, 185-pound left-hander for the Top Tier Americans put together a solid showing on the mound. It’s a smooth, consistent drop and drive delivery, allowing Shapiro to locate in the zone. He has deliberate actions on the mound and pitches effectively away at 80-83. He uses his curveball in the zone at 73-74 and below the zone at 75-76. He controls the running game well and pitches with a plan. He pitched four innings and didn’t allow a hit or a run. He’ll throw his curveball for strikes, allowing him to throw the pitch at any point in the count. He’ll continue to gain velocity, but he’ll always be a finesse pitcher, relying on his abilty to locate and mix his pitches to be effective. /var/www/html/login/modules/Playerss/shortcodes.json not found

GARETH TOBIASLHP / WEISS, TX / 2020 7/24/19 - Uncommitted 2020 LHP Gareth Tobias (Lone Star/Weiss) got the start for the Texas squad, and was extremely good. While his fastball sat in the 80-83 range, he was able to locate with a three-pitch mix, hold baserunners, and keep opposing hitters off balance. He tends to slow his arm down on the breaking ball, but despite standing at just 5-10, 160 pounds, he pitches with confidence and conviction. /var/www/html/login/modules/Playerss/shortcodes.json not found

COLTON PRESLEYOF / LHP / HERNANDO, MS / 2020 7/24/19 - 6-foot, 170-pound left-handed arm went deep for Easley Baseball Club in his outing on the bump. Presley was up 86 mph, sitting 84-85 mph through his first couple of innings. He used his slider frequently, a sweeper that generated swing and misses. COLE ANDERSONLHP / ST. LAURENCE, IL / 2020 Rankings  StateRank: 225 / POS: 21 7/25/19 - A left-hander for the Top Tier Americans threw a complete game, allowing one unearned run. A crafty pitcher, Anderson mixed in a curve, and his fastball off one another consistency throughout the night. It’s an old fashioned windup, that’s mostly quick-paced, although he varied timings and had hitters out front at times. He did a good job of tunneling his pitches, and making the most out of his velocity based on his location. BLAKE COOPEROF / HERITAGE, TN / 2020 Rankings  StateRank: 117 / POS: 27 7/27/19 - May be listed as a primary outfielder, but it appears he has a bright future on the mound as well. Pitched well in relief, filling up the strike zone with his 85-88 mph fastball. Low-effort delivery and easy out of the hand, the fastball seemed to sneak up on hitters. He also shuffled in a highly effective power slurve that flashed depth and tight spin (up to 2500 spin, per Trackman), occasionally back-footing right-handed hitters. /var/www/html/login/modules/Playerss/shortcodes.json not found
