Summer Standouts: South Region 2023s

After a long hot summer down in the sunshine state, we want to look back at the many players who stood out at showcases this year. Plenty of committed and uncommitted talent from each high school class made a name for themselves this summer and really stood out to our scouting staff.

Monday, we introduced our 2021 Summer Standout series. This series will highlight players from each class that really stood out at our events this summer. Throughout this Summer Standout Series, we will get ready for our State Games this Fall with the theme of #RepYourRegion. Each standout article will be broken down region by region. Today, we will continue with the South Region 2023 Standouts.

South Region 2023 Standouts

Randy Balceiro C / RHP / City of Hialeah Educational Academy, FL / 2023

6-foot-2, 170-pound mature strong frame. Solid during batting practice, the right-handed hitter's best exit velocity was 91 mph. (61.13 mph bat speed average). (20.16 mph hand speed average). Starts in a balanced open stance with a tight load, then uses a toe tap stride. Has efficient bat speed, uphill swing plane and good extension on his finish. Found multiple barrels with some loud contact. Pull side line drive approach. While catching, his best throw downs of the day reached a max velocity of 72 mph; had a clean natural transfer, consistent footwork, and consistent hands. produced pop times of 2.03-2.28. Clean setup with some flexibility. Showed a ¾ slot and a short quick arm action with decent accuracy to the bag. During the event, recorded a 60 time of 8.24. Capable on the mound, used a high ¾ arm angle with a short quick arm action while showing consistent arm speed. Tall-and-fall type pitcher who shows easy effort. Even shoulders with an consistent balance point. Lands square with a clean finish. Produced a fastball that came in at 75-77 mph and topped out at 78 mph; has a straight fastball that shows some running action and command up in the zone. (Max spin 2051; Avg 1963). Has a tight curveball (63-65) that shows command low in the zone and some tilt action. (Max spin 1901; Avg 1749).

Blaise Boisseau RHP / 1B / American Heritage Delray, FL / 2023

6-foot-2, 185-pound athletic solid build. Solid on the mound, showed quick arm speed, he had a ¾ arm angle with a long arm action. Drop-and-drive type pitcher who shows easy effort. Displays even shoulders and a consistent athletic balance point. Lands square with an athletic finish. Produced a fastball that came in at 76-80 mph and topped out at 82 mph; has hard running action and control very consistent low in the zone with heavy movement. (Max spin 1920; Avg 1627). Has consistent low in the zone control and swing and miss action on his tight curveball (59-62). (Max spin 1823; Avg 1750). Has a sharp changeup (71-72) that shows some fading action and consistent arm side control.

Michael Farina 3B / RHP / Gulf Coast, FL / 2023

5-foot-8, 165-pound solid physical build. Solid during batting practice, the right-handed hitter had an exit velocity of 84 mph. (60.53 mph bat speed average). (18.70 mph hand speed average). Began in a balanced crouched stance with a quick load, then used a short stride. Bat speed was efficient, had a level swing plane and high finish. Found multiple barrels with some loud contact. Up the middle line drive approach. Capable in the infield, displayed a velocity of 84 mph; shows soft consistent hands, smooth feet, and a clean natural exchange. Fields the ball out front, movements laterally were athletic. Showed decent accuracy to the base with a short loose arm action and a ¾ slot. During the event, ran the 60-yard dash in 7.3. Solid on the mound, showed quick consistent arm speed, also used a ¾ arm angle and a short arm action. Drop-and-drive type pitcher and uses high effort. Has even shoulder with an athletic balance point. Lands square with recoil finish. Produced a fastball that came in at 76-79 mph and topped out at 80 mph; had control consistent low in the zone and slight running action with straight movement. (Max spin 2061; Avg 1960). Threw a sharp curveball (67-68) that showed sweeping action and consistent glove side command. (Max spin 1846; Avg 1846).

Corey Goldstick C / OF / Dwyer, FL / 2023

5-foot-9, 175-pound solid build. Solid during batting practice, the right-handed hitter's best exit velocity was 89 mph. (65.48 mph bat speed average). (22.77 mph hand speed average). Began in a balanced stance with a smooth controlled load, then used a toe tap stride. Bat speed is efficient, displays a short upward swing plane and high finish. In his round he found some barrels with some loud contact. Line drive approach. Behind the plate, throw downs to second were maxed at 77 mph; shows soft consistent hands, a quick clean transfer, and athletic feet. showed his ability to throw runners out with an efficient pop time of 1.98-2.08. Athletic setup with some flexibility. From a ¾ slot, showed consistent accuracy to the base with a short arm action. During the event, recorded a 60 time of 7.42.

Martin Gomez OF / Florida Christian , FL / 2023

6-foot-3, 205-pound physical athletic frame. Solid at the plate, the right-handed hitter's 97 mph exit velocity ranks him 3rd at the event. (66.23 mph bat speed average). (19.85 mph hand speed average). Starts in a tall balanced stance with a small controlled load, then uses a short stride. Bat speed is explosive, displays a short level swing plane and high finish. Found multiple barrels with a lot of loud contact. Up the middle line drive approach. Solid in the outfield, his best throws to the infield topped out at 80 mph; has consistent hands, smooth athletic feet, and a clean exchange. Laterally, movements were athletic and fielded the ball out front. Consistent accuracy to the bag, used a consistent loose arm action and a high ¾ slot. Displayed speed and athleticism at the event, recording a 60 time of 6.94.
