Super 60: Nine To Know

Every year, the Super 60 confirms thoughts on some top prospects while also revealing plenty of others that warrant a closer follow—whether it’s because of a position change or the result of an offseason in the weight room. The 2019 Super 60 was filled with big performances from a raw statistical standpoint and there was no shortage of highlights. After taking things in on Sunday and looking back over notes and videos, here are nine names you need to know as we head into the spring season.

Mason Auer, OF/RHP, Kickapoo HS, MO
Auer has seen most of his playing time as an outfielder and he has tools—he turned in a 6.65-second 60 and had an exit velocity off a tee of 103 mph, tied for second-best at the event. But his time as a position player may be a thing of the past after his bullpen session. He tied an event record by hitting 96 with his fastball, sitting 93-95. He pitches with some effort and was scattered with his fastball control, but is obviously pretty new to pitching. He has a quick arm from an over-the-top slot and also flashed feel for his secondary stuff. The changeup had some run at 78-81 and the breaking ball varied in shape, but showed sharpness and the makings of being an above-average offering down the road at 76-77. A Missouri State recruit, Auer has a live frame at 6 feet, 190 pounds.
