Super 60 Spotlight: Gray Thomas

On Sunday, Feb. 7, Prep Baseball Report will host the 19th edition of its prestigious, flagship event: the Super 60 Pro Showcase. Since the event’s inception in 2003, more than 300 players have been selected in the MLB Draft, including 22 first-round picks and 25 second-rounders.

We started our our march toward the Super 60 earlier this month, by highlighting the prospects set to join us, shining a light on their impressive player profiles that they've groomed through their high school years and beyond.

Scouting Report

2/02/20

An impressive and projectable 6-foot-4, 205-pound frame with present strength and some room left to fill out. On the mound, the right-hander works from a slightly up-tempo delivery with some rhythm and a high leg kick before exploding down the mound with quality leg drive, finishing towards the dish. Arm action is long and quick in the back before coming through a low-¾ slot with elite arm speed. Fastball shows arm-side run, especially down in the zone at 90-93 mph, some strikes. Slider is elite with late 10/4 depth and tight spin thrown with full arm speed at 74-76 mph, nearly all strikes. Chageup shows some arm-side run and depth at times at  79-80 mph, mostly strikes.

2/02/20

Demonstrated feel for a large 6-foot-4, 205-pound frame with present physicality and strength in his actions. The right-handed hitter begins with an open, balance stance utilizing a knee-knock stride to initiate a slightly uphill barrel path through the hitting zone. Showcased advanced bat speed off the tee with easy lift to the pull-side gap. Displayed consistent, loud contact with advanced barrel awareness, evidenced by a 98 mph bat-exit velocity. Recorded a 7.39 60-yard dash showing the athleticism he possesses in his frame.

2/03/19

A 6-foot-4, 190-pound long frame with some strength and room to add more. On the mound, the right-hander works from a slightly up tempo delivery with a high leg kick and hip load striding down the mound with quality leg drive and finishing to the first base side with recoil. Arm action is long fluid and quick in the back before coming through a low-¾ slot with elite arm speed. Fastball shows consistent and late arm side run at 90-92 mph, some strikes. Changeup shows heavy and late fade at 82-84 mph, some strikes. Slider shows multiple shapes with late depth mostly 10/4 at 78-79 mph, some strikes.

2/03/19

A 6-foot-4, 190-pound long frame with some strength throughout. Offensively, the right-handed hitter bats from an upright, even, and balanced set-up with some rhythm in his high-set hands. Uses a very big and aggressive leg kick and moderate stride before launching his hands on a flat path to contact with a high finish and advanced bats speed and some barrel strength. In BP, shows some middle of the field and flat with mostly pull on the ground, some barrels, 89 exit velo. Runs a 7.58 60. Defensively, shows confident actions, playing high with active feet and above average hands. Throws with a full arm stroke coming through a low ¾ slot with elite arm speed. Shows some accuracy at 92 mph across the diamond.
