On Sunday, Feb. 7, Prep Baseball Report will host the 19th edition of its prestigious, flagship event: the Super 60 Pro Showcase. Since the event’s inception in 2003, more than 300 players have been selected in the MLB Draft, including 22 first-round picks and 25 second-rounders.

We started our our march toward the Super 60 earlier this month, by highlighting the prospects set to join us, shining a light on their impressive player profiles that they've groomed through their high school years and beyond.

Scouting Report

7/07/20

With one of the top run/throw combinations at the ProCase, Phillips is super athletic at 5-foot-11, 180 pounds. His top tool is his speed, clocking a blistering 6.53 in the sixty and a 4.13 from the left side on a ground out during game action. His sixty time was the top at this year’s ProCase. He also showed above average arm strength (89 mph) from the outfield with strong carry to his target. His speed plays on defense with plenty of range in all directions to cover the big field. Offensively, the switch-hitter looked more comfortable from the left side with a loose swing, stayed inside the baseball and used the middle of the field. From the right side his swing was short, but choppy and out front. With an exit velocity off the tee of 91 mph he showed some present pop, but during game action there wasn’t much power from either side. His measurables of 64.7 mph of bat speed, 17.3 mph peak hand speed, 7.9 g of rotational acceleration and an on-plane efficiency score of 51% all check-in below average for the college level. However, he is able to currently thrive on offense by putting the bat on the ball in just 0.14 seconds of time to contact and using his superior speed to create havoc on the base paths. Phillips possesses many of the tools to become a premium prospect, and just how premium will be determined by the development of his bat over the next few years.

5-foot-11, 180 pounds; premium athlete and an increasingly rising name to know on a national level. Switch-hit bat with excellent barrel control and strength on contact, helping him take what’s given to him to put the ball in play at a high rate with some bat strength; twitchy swings, a little more comfortable from the left side with a more natural feel to hit. Natural center fielder with a quick first step, glides to routes, makes the deep fly ball look routine; above-average arm strength, too. Aggressive baserunner who is constantly looking to take the extra base. Among the top prospects in the Midwest who is stirring some looks ahead of the 2021 draft.

+ OF Q Phillips (Brookfield HS, WI), a Michigan recruit, collected multiple hits, opening up the tournament for Midwest Prospects Cincinnati. The 5-foot-10, 170-pound left-handed hitter sits in a balanced stance with an easy, fluid load that allows his quick hands to effortlessly work the barrel flat through the zone. His coverage of the plate allows for firm line drives to all field, and he has impressive lag of the barrel in the zone. A confident hitter with a mature approach, Phillips took quality at-bats all evening, and looks the part of a top of the order hitter who may have a chance to stick in centerfield moving forward.

7/18/19

5-foot-10, 170-pound lean/strong, athletic frame. One of the top bats in the Wisconsin 2021 class had a strong showing at the plate all tournament long and was a strong candidate to be named the offensive MVP. Phillips led an impressive offensive attack by STiKS Black in their 11-7 victory over Illinois Indians on Friday. The freshly committed Michigan recruit went 1-for-2 at the plate with three RBIs, two of which came on a deep homer to center. That mammoth home run to straight away center field came with a wooden bat, too. Phillips is one of the top-ranked players in the state's 2021 class and is a high-follow as he prepares to enter his junior season at Brookfield East. He finished the tournament going a combined 7-for-16 with two doubles, a triple, and a home run, all while covering a ton of ground as the team’s primary center fielder.

7/11/19

Strong, well-proportioned frame. Switch hitting outfielder. Balanced setup, smooth load, leg lift, long stride with a toe-tap. Quick hands, fluid swing, rhythm through contact. Defensively, impressed in center field with his route running and ability to track down the baseball, quick first step, reads the ball well off the bat. Went 1-for-2 with a sacrifice fly for STiKS Black 16U on Friday morning as their two hitter.

2/17/19

5-foot-10, 170-pound switch-hitting outfield prospect with lean/strong, athletic frame; added strength over the offseason. Ran a 6.94 in the 60-yard dash. Offensively, true switch-hit type, similar from both sides, tall/open setup, smooth back, leg hang trigger, short stride, balanced throughout. Fast bat, athletic hands, barrel awareness, short path, gap-to-gap contact; topped 91 mph exit velo from the tee. Defensively, center field profile, glides to the ball with athleticism, clean exchanges, works through the ball. Arm action is long, high ¾ slot, accurate to home, topped 85 mph on throws. High-follow 2021.
