2019 TOURNAMENT 12 PREVIEW: RED ROSTER

With Tournament 12 approaching September 17 until the 21st, we take a look at each roster, with players from all across the country with short clips on who they are what they could become this upcoming week.

PBR will be on location for all 5 days, bringing you non-stop coverage of the Tournament along with player updates, statistics, video and more.

This year players are spread out through 6 teams, no longer separated by their territories and no longer will they begin with the 1-1 count. We look forward to seeing the talent all week but for now, get to meet your Red roster representatives for T12.

Jason Begin 1B / OF / Academie Baseball Canada, QC / 2020

Report: The bat is the carrying tool for Begin, no stranger to T12, expect for him to be comfortable and aggressive right away at the plate.

Owen Caissie OF / Notre Dame, ON / 2021

Report: There is a lot to like about the 2021 Michigan commit. The 6-foot-3 190 pound outfielder, is a top of the scale runner with a 6.67 sixty. Caissie has a smooth and easy swing from the left side. Ball jumps off the bat with a recorded 103 mph exit velocity. There is a lot to like about Caissie and expect him to make an impact on the bases and at the plate throughout Tournament 12.

Connor Caskenette C / 3B / Cowichan , BC / 2020

Report: Caskenette is a solid all-around catcher from BC, the Bossier Parrish commit is a strong RHH with a gap-to-gap approach and flashes of power.  He is a plus defender with strong hands and the ability to steal the low pitch, blocks well and has a consistent 2.0 pop time.

Cooper Crompton RHP / Walnut Grove, BC / 2020

Report: A 2020 RHP with a tall, lean 6-foot-5 165 pound frame, Crompton has been up to 89mph while consistently working at 85-87.  He pairs his fastball with a tight slider in the upper 70’s, a change-up with arm side run and a strong ability to keep the ball down in the zone.  Crompton has a very high compete level that will allow him to be a solid starter with a 3-pitch mix at the next level. Look for a jump in his velocity with an increase in weight from the West Coast in BC.

Nicolas Deschamps C / 3B / Edouard-Montpetit, QC / 2020

Report: With a springy, athletic 6-foot 175 pounds. frame Deschamps is a pure catcher with instincts and receiving ability, he has great feel for the position. Moves free and easy with quick feet and soft hands that allow for a seamless transfer on throws to bases. He has an adequate arm with accuracy with recorded pop times in the 2.0-2.2 range. A smooth lefty swing with advanced pitch recognition only adds to his stock.

Vic Domingo RHP / 3B / Saint Thomas More Collegiate, BC / 2020

Report: Right-hander from UBC Thunderbirds that works in the 84-87 range with his fastball from ¾ slot and natural run on the heater. He’ll mix in both a changeup and breaking ball to go along with a high tempo delivery that cause some deception for the hitter. There is life out the hand and once there is some polish on the off-speed, Domingo could take off quickly and be a dominant force on the mound in BC. Big week to see where he stacks up against the rest of the country.

Mathew Duffy 3B / RHP / Assumption, ON / 2020

Report: Duffy has done it on both sides this year, as he was hot early in the season with the bat and barreling pitches all over the diamond, and recently we saw him work at 87-89 for an inning of work with both changeup and curveball coming out his ¾ slot from the right side. The stuff and movements were very encouraging, overhead windup from the full, worked both sides of the plate and garnered swings and misses, overmatching hitters. Look for Duffy to carry that into T12 and head into the fall being an arm that college coaches need to be on.

Antony Gilbert 2B / Cardinal-Roy, QC / 2020

Report: Middle infielder out of Quebec with feel to hit while profiling as an offensive second baseman at the next level. Seemed like all Gilbert did was find barrels last year and it’s easy to expect more of the same this year.

Tyler Hinrikus 3B / SS / Resurrection Catholic , ON / 2020

Report: Hinrikus, a 6-foot-2, 185 pounds third baseman is an exciting player to follow at Tournament 12. With an exit velocity of 104 mph, Hinrikus has a simple, quiet, smooth swing that creates some lift allowing him to generate power. A plus plus runner with a 6.78 sixty, Hinrikus has clean movements in the infield, hands work out front, agile side-to-side, and has been up to 85 mph across the infield. Committed to Ball State, the 2020 grad is an intriguing prospect.

Drew Howard RHP / SS / All Saints, ON / 2020

Report: Howard a lean right-handed pitcher/shortstop standing at 5-foot-11 and 150 pounds,is a very intriguing two-way guy. On the mound, pitching from a ¾ slot, Howard’s fastball sits 85-88 touching 89. Has a sharp 12/6 curve ranging from 72-73. At the plate, Howard has a line drive approach with gap power at the plate from the right side. Currently uncommitted, Howard has upside all over the diamond.

Tyrese Johnson OF / SS / Okotoks Dawgs Academy, AB / 2020

Report: Outfielder from the Dawgs in Alberta with some rhythm and feel from the right side. The bat and athleticism are his carrying tools and this will be a big test for Johnson to see where he stacks up against the rest of the country.

Carter Krawchuk RHP / SS / St. Francis, ON / 2021

Report: Intriguing 2021 right-hander who has been up to 88 mph on the mound and can spin his curveball with the best of them. It’s a wiry frame and is only going to get stronger.

Jaycob Lachance RHP / Academie les Estacades, QC / 2020

Report: Loose and easy ¾ arm that has the chance to be a sinker/slider guy moving forward. The fastball works in the 83-85 range with natural run and the slider is promising as he gets sweeping actions and weak contact, nice 1-2 mix for Lachance and is someone to pay close attention to this week on the mound.

Ricardo Sanchez SS / 2B / Okotoks Dawgs Academy, AB / 2020

Report: Fun player to watch who does a little bit of everything. Can jump on the mound and be 84-86 with a curveball and dominate a lineup while sanchez will play up the middle, be a force defensively and be an offensive contributor at the same time. It’s loose, athletic, plays with speed and has IQ for the game. Definite guy to be on as a college coach, expect for Sanchez to make an impact one way or another this week.

Brendan Wilkinson RHP / OF / Bishop Reding, ON / 2021

Report: Wilkinson is a sturdy righthander at 6-foot-1, 175-pounds and the two outings we’ve seen this summer it has been 84-86, touching 87 mph with heaviness on the heater and downer breaking ball in the 71-73 range. A little wrap at the back on the separation, Wilkinson will get swings and misses up in the zone and if he gets ahead, will be able to bury his curveball as well. There is room to become more athletic while adding strength and the upside with Wilkinson is something to be very aware of.

Calvin Ziegler RHP / OF / St. Marys, ON / 2020

Report: Ziegler a right handed pitcher standing at 6 foot, 190 pounds is one of the best arms of the 2020 class. Sitting between the 89-92 range and touching 93 with the fastball, Ziegler pitches from a ¾ slot. Ziegler is athletic and strong, with a loose, easy arm action and can repeat his delivery. His curveball has some good late break to it sitting 72-73. A member of the Canadian Junior National Team, the 2020 grad is committed to Connecticut.

Williams Camacho-Soto
Report: All Soto did at the Canada Cup was hit, and then hit some more. Scrappy right-handed hitter with bat to ball skills and gap power at the moment. Not afraid to use the whole field and does not get cheated when at the dish, aggressive and does a good job of finding the barrel.

Jesse Fayant
Report: Young prospect from Saskatchewan with quick hands at the plate and a quick arm on the mound, young and undersized at the moment, Fayant stood out as he turned on 92 mph at the Canada Cup and was a guy who lead his team at the 15u Nationals. Fayant impressed us in two seperate looks this past month.

Thomas Ireland
Report: Loved the way he attacked and competed at the Canada Cup. The Polk state commit works in the 84-87 mph range from the left side with clean actions and ability to throw three pitches for strikes, with the secondary having a real chance to be average to above. Pay close attention to Ireland, could be a coming out party for him this week.

Gio Mezzemo
Report: Dual guy from the Coquitlam Reds organization, Mezzomo is a lefty with a high-¾ arm slot with a FB sitting 83-86 mph with good late two seem ride and a CB 68-70 mph with good 1/7 shape. He pounds the zone and it's easy to see the upside as he projects as quality college arm. Mezzomo can also swing the bat and has some juice to display when he is timed up and gets extended through contact. Mezzomo is uncommitted and will be an interesting one to watch going forward.
