Team Canada - Day 4 Notes

Assistant Director - PBR Canada

JEREMY PILONLHP / CHENE BLEU, QC / 2023

One of the more intriguing arms in the '23 class, Pilon got on the mound and kept hitters off-balance with a two-pitch mix. The fastball sat 84-86, up to 87 and he didn't have much trouble locating it. The breaking ball is an interesting piece of his repertoire, snapping it off at 72-73 whenever he wants in any count. His CB has 1/7 shape, and has tight spin at times. The tempo is super quick and he makes life uncomfortable for hitters in the box. It's tough to tell how much projection is in there, but the arm is clean, he's on time, and he throws strikes right now.

SAM WHITEC / SS / AURORA, ON / 2023

Hitters hit, and White was the epitome of that today. White dominated pitching all day, banging out three doubles - two to the opposite field. Over his last two games he has five doubles and he sprays the ball all over. At this point, against Canada's best, White makes the case that he's country's best hitter every time he gets in the box. It's under control, he's strong, and he wants to do damage every time.

SAM SHAWSS / OF / LAMBRICK PARK SECONDARY SCHOOL, BC / 2023

When Sam Shaw steps on the field it's all business, and as a pitcher it's frustrating to throw to him. His QAB count is high, he fights off pitches, uses all parts of the field and catches lots of barrel. Shaw has come up more than once, but he's been one of those players who's constantly had good day after good day down in Florida.

KALEB THOMASRHP / BRANTFORD COLLEGIATE INSTITUTE, ON / 2023

We've seen Thomas pitch a few times this summer, and he's been as consistent as they come. At 6-foot, 190-pounds, Thomas generates a lot of torque and whip with his upper half. The fastball sat 86-88, mixing in a slider at 75-76, and flashed a changeup at 79-80. Thomas shows a high spin rate on his CB, and he has no problem attacking hitters. The velo dropped off a bit near the end of his outing, but you can bank on him throwing strikes and working quickly.

CHARLES OLIVIER CYROF / RHP / ECOLE DE MORTAGNE, QC / 2023

This was the first look we got at Cyr on the mound since running our first events in Quebec. The 6-foot-5 right-hander was 86-89, touching a few 90s. It's downhill on the mound, and very raw overall. The spin on his curveball was good at times, but still a work in progress. Overall, Cyr is a blank slate pitcher who has a chance if he can put it all together. All that said, there's a lot to dream on with Cyr, an athlete with long limbs who may not be done growing just yet.
