Team Louisiana - 4 Team Carolina - 1

In their 1st game of the 2022 PBR Future Games, Team Carolina came away with a lot of positives.  One that was missed was on the final scoreboard where they dropped the game to Team Louisiana by a score of 4-1.  Four arms threw for Team Carolina, limiting Team Louisiana to just one inning of scoring, surrendering 3 unearned runs.  Offensively, the Carolina bats where held at bay by 3 Louisiana arms.

Player Notes - Game 1

Camron Seagraves, RHP, Richmond County HS, 2024
Seagraves showed a solid 3 pitch mix in his two innings of work.  At times the ball was sprayed but the stuff played up in the zone and created swing and miss.  Seagraves peaked at 91, sitting 85-89.  The arm stroke shortens on the breaking ball a bit, creating solid leverage and depth in the downer action.

Cade Pilgrim, LHP, Clover HS, 2024
A big winner on the day, Pilgrim was simply dominant in a very efficient inning.  The lefty uses a long arm swing with whip through an over-the-top slot.  The fastball ranged 84-85, spinning at 2400rpm.  The slider created confusion for both left and right handed hitters.  The slider sat 74-76, 2450rpm.  Pilgrim is scheduled to throw again on Saturday vs. Team Missouri.

Kaden Morris, RHP, Cleveland HS, 2024
The LakePoint complex was buzzing as the 6-foot-8 righty attacked the zone with a fastball that peaked at 91mph and a breaking ball with late, two plane action at 75-76, 2600rpm.  Fairly controlled down the hill, Morris was able to flood the zone from the wind-up and stretch with a clean arm action that creates angle from the large stature.  Morris flashed a couple of change-ups with solid arm speed and some feel throughout the outing.

Hunter Howard, RHP, JL Mann HS, 2024
A strong frame, Howard attacked showing feel for three pitches, working to keep hitters on the defensive with his pace, location, and ability to mix.  Unfazed by some barrel contact, he continued to attack and keep hitters on their heels throughout his two innings of work.  Howard sat 85-86 with a short, late slider at 77.

Chone James, C, Socastee HS, 2024
Two barrels in two at-bats resulted in 1 hit on the day for the right handed hitter.  The path was direct and flat through contact.  Behind the dish he showed well above average receiving skills with an ability to keep pitches around the zone, in the zone.  The arm has carry and there is excellent feel for the bag on throws through on stolen base attempts.

Rafael Soto Jr, SS, P27, 2024
Continues to flash advanced rhythm and skill with his feet and hands on the defensive side.  A very confident defender, he has worked to build the trust and confidence that is present.  He pairs the fielding skills with a quick release from a short arm action and high-¾ slot that creates easy backspin carry with excellent accuracy on the routine play.

Landon Penfield, 3B, Blythewood HS, 2024
The 3B caught a couple of tough charge plays off the bat early, but continued to play and react, making several plays moving to his left with some ease.  Offensively he barreled a fastball, delivering a hit for Team Carolina.

Other Player Notes

Team Select will feature two arms from North Carolina this week.  The first opened up the Team Select game play with two solid innings.

Cole Lanford, LHP, Leesville Rd HS, 2024
Broad shoulders and some strength present, the lefty works with pace and has a desire to attack the zone with a heavy mix.  The fastball ranged ranged 83-86, 2000rpm.  While lacking feel for any one spot he was around the zone and willing to challenge hitters throughout the count.  Lanford flashed an early slider with late 2/8 tilt, but the pitch is still developing consistency at 73-76, 2100rpm.  Lanford punched 6 in his two innings, including 4 in the 2nd inning of work.  He did show a competitive nature working around base runners in both halves to continue to attack hitters.
