Texas Spring Break: Round Rock

ROUND ROCK, TX -- With 10 days on the schedule for action in the Lone Star State, On the Hunt kicked off the first weekend of play with tournament action in the Austin-area, and primarily in and around Round Rock. Damp and chilly with a steady breeze throughout nearly all games, the players were able to bring substantial energy to each of the games even though it was so early on in the year.

Highlighting the short stint in Round Rock was the performance of highly-touted, power-hitting CIF Brett Baty (Lake Travis HS, TX). There was serious concern that Baty might not make an appearance on the diamond, as he was still competing as a standout performer for the Lake Travis basketball team that has had a stellar year, and continues a deep run through the state playoffs. However, when the lineups were exchanged on Thursday’s first game for the Cavaliers, Baty’s name sat atop the order playing third base.

Brett Baty Homerun


Noticeably leaner than when we last saw him in the fall, Baty looks to be enjoying the effects of being in basketball season, and that increased athleticism and fitness showcased very well over the course of the two games that he played in. Listed at 6-foot-3, 210-pounds, he looks closer to 200-pounds now with long legs and some natural strength in the upper-half. He wasted little time announcing his presence as he deposited the first pitch of the game over the right field fence for a loud home run. His balance at the plate
