Texas Spring Break: The Now-The Next-The Future

DALLAS, TX– If undersized is truly the new 6-foot-4, then allow Texas' Jett Williams (Rockwall Heath HS, TX) to champion that moniker for the prep class of the 2022 MLB Draft. Surrounded by prospects equipped with “pro-ready” frames, and hailing from a state where “everything is bigger”, the 5-foot-8, 180-pound infielder is not the prototypical slam dunk first rounder. However, with a tool set that is both atypical and exciting, Williams has positioned himself for intense consideration in the first round of July’s MLB Draft.

It was a quick look at the dynamic shortstop in Dallas, but regardless, another stellar showing. Kicking off the morning of the first day with the early game, he turned around a line drive single to lead things off, and proceeded to steal second base before scoring on a hit. Each plate appearance, in the morning, carried impressive confidence as the compact right-handed hitter got off big swings with controlled aggression in all counts with a slightly uphill path. There was a businesslike approach to everything that Williams did on the diamond, and he commanded attention without a single word. Finishing 2-for-4 with a walk, the loudest at-bat came later in the game with a deep, two-strike drive to the center field wall that fought against the wind before being caught in web gem fashion. Facing cross-count pitch selection, and a steady diet of offspeed pitches, he maintained balance with an innate ability to keep the hands back while firing them up late in turning the barrel with authority.
