The Hotlist: Newcomers In Updated 2016 Rankings

By Nathan Rode and PBR Staff

The 2016 Overall Rankings were updated last week and there are some new names that can be found on the list thanks to the emergence of some prospects this summer and addition of some new states to Prep Baseball Report’s coverage area. Below are 10 prospects that were added in the latest update, listed in order of their overall rank.

Jeff Belge, LHP, Henninger HS, NY
Belge first appeared on the radar this spring when he made a start against 2014 RHP Scott Blewett (Baker HS, NY), the Royals second round pick. He jumps out immediately with a big, strong build at 6-foot-5, 220 pounds and then shows a projectable arsenal. He can run his fastball into the low 90s, though generally sits in the high 80s with good arm-side run. His most recent outing came at the Metropolitan Baseball Classic where he sat 83-86 mph, likely worn down from a long summer. His slider flashes sharpness at 77-78 and he has the ability to throw it for strikes. At the Area Code Underclass Games earlier this month, the St. John’s recruit struck out seven in three innings while allowing two runs on four hits, three walks and a hit batter. He checks in at No. 2 in the Overall Rankings.
