The Hotlist: Unsigned Senior Southpaws

By Nathan Rode and PBR Staff

As November’s early signing period approaches, college coaches are looking to fill out their future rosters with commitments and are likely to the point where they are looking for something specific. Over the next few weeks, we’ll highlight some of the top unsigned seniors that represent a commodity. This week, it’s left-handed pitching.

Evan Acosta, LHP, Batavia HS, IL
Acosta has a long, lean frame at 6-foot-1, 175 pounds and is highly athletic with projection. He shows athletic abilities on the mound, defending his position well with good footwork. His athletic arm action allows him to make tough plays. He has good mound presence and can control the game. His delivery is athletic and repeatable, though his upright finish lacks extension. His arm action is short and quick, giving him the ability to hide the ball. His fastball gets on the hitter quickly and he can also consistently spin a tight curveball. He flashed command of his fastball, which gets occasional sink and sits 81-83 mph, touching 84. His curveball showed depth, sitting at 70-73 with occasional 12-to-6 action. He also mixes in a changeup at 77.
